Private Prisons
Many prisons in the U.S. are no longer run by their respective states, they are being run by private corporations. I would like to hear opinions on this. I have some very definite opinions on this now common practice, but I would like to hear what your opinions are on the matter. I will say that I have strong feelings against this, but I'm not posting this thread to argue, or convince others that my opinion is right, I'm just interested in other views. If you think this is a good idea, why? Conversely, if you think this is not such a great idea, why?

who foots the bill for incarcerated persons? the state? do they get volume discounts?
i think the system itself is corrupt and it won't matter who runs the prisons. however, privatization probably lacks good oversight and why should private companies make a good profit off something the state mandates and should operate?
