Default On The Edge

Sharp stones slash her feet and leave their bloody trail
Rain like razors cut her face
But you can hardly tell
Her black hair lying everywhere
Ruined makeup like a jokers mask
Fog so thick beyond her stare
Beyond her laugh

The scene was set so well with candles all around
The conversation kept light
With sexual undertones
She thought she could expect it all
White diamonds and frilly lace
But she never expected this
A slap in the face.

A flash of lightning
Deafening thunder
Cries no one will ever hear
All alone with a heart of fear.

She should have seen the signs all around
There was never commitment on his mind
He told her suddenly
He had a family
What was she to do
With this love she finally knew
No more tears will be cried for you
No more lies will be told for you
I have given my best for you.

One more day goes by without you
Some still say they would die for you
They don’t know you like I do.

They still save space in their heart for you
Right or wrong they’ll always come back for you
But I know you were never true
Someone forgot to tell you
That I already knew.

When you go please remember this
You took all but with just one kiss
I took back my life.
She’s walking down the street all alone
He jumps her from behind
He pulls her to the shadows and is not kind.

She looks at the reflection in the mirror
A stranger’s staring back
She knows the bruises and cuts on her face will not last.

What’s becoming of us
Do we care anymore
We’ve lost the fight but not the war
We will not give up our lives
We will not lie down and die.

She takes the bottle off of the shelf
Fills her glass up to the rim
The bottle of pills are already in her hand
She pops the lid.

Women everywhere are living in fear
repression takes its toll
One day soon we will break free from these chains
And fight the war.
