* A SpaceX cargo ship carrying meteorite samples, live mice, and a roast turkey dinner is set to arrive at the International Space Station on Monday afternoon.

* This marks the first flight of SpaceX's updated Dragon cargo ship. The new design can carry more cargo and can be used for up to five return journeys, up from three for the previous model.

* The capsule will join another Dragon ship already docked at the station, marking the first time SpaceX has had two capsules there at the same time.

* This mission is bringing about 6,400 pounds of supplies to the ISS, including about 4,400 pounds of research. This includes microbes and meteorite samples and 3D engineered heart tissue.

SpaceX launched a capsule carrying a roast turkey, live mice, and meteorite samples to the International Space Station on Sunday morning.

It marked the 21st commercial resupply mission for Elon Musk's aerospace giant, and the first flight of SpaceX's updated Dragon cargo ship.

The unmanned capsule, which was launched from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida by a Falcon 9 rocket booster, is expected to arrive Monday at 1:30 p.m. ET, after the mission was delayed by a day because of poor weather.

This mission is bringing about 6,400 pounds of supplies to the ISS, including about 4,400 pounds of research. This includes microbes and meteorite samples to investigate how microgravity affects biomining, 3D engineered heart tissue, a medical device that will provide quick blood test results for astronauts, and a new airlock.

It will join another Dragon capsule that docked at the ISS last month, and it will be the first time SpaceX has had two capsules there at the same time. SpaceX is hoping to always have at least one Dragon docked at the ISS.

The new Dragon model can carry roughly 20% more weight than the previous one.

The capsule is also bringing 40 mice, which will be used to research the impact that living on the ISS can have on astronauts' bones and eyes, the AP reported.

The experiments make it the "the ultimate Christmas present" for the NASA astronaut Kate Rubins, Kenny Todd, NASA's deputy space station program manager, said during a press conference on Friday.

When asked whether the capsule was bringing personal presents to the ISS for the seven astronauts on board, Todd said: "Let's see what happens when they open the hatch … I'm optimistic."

Todd did say the Dragon was bringing a festive meal for the astronauts, including roast turkey, cornbread dressing, cranberry sauce, shortbread biscuits, and tubes of icing.

The capsule is expected to remain at the ISS for about a month before returning to Earth with experiments and old equipment.

The first stage of the Falcon 9 booster detached and landed on SpaceX's drone ship "Of Course I Still Love You" in the Atlantic Ocean about nine minutes after launch. The ship catches falling boosters so SpaceX can use them again.

The updated Dragon model is capable of up to five flights to and from the ISS, compared with three for the previous version, and can dock there by itself rather than using the ISS's robot arm for anchoring.

It can also stay on the station more than twice as long as the previous version of Dragon and can hold twice as many powered lockers, which preserve science and research samples during transport to and from Earth.

The flight was the first of at least nine agreed under a space-resupply contract between SpaceX and NASA.

Post Elon Musk

Elon Musk Confirms He Relocated To Texas From California

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said Tuesday he has personally relocated to Texas, citing repeated complaints with California’s regulations over technology companies as well as what he called innovation complacency throughout Silicon Valley.

“If a team has been winning for too long, they do tend to get a little complacent, a little entitled, and then they don’t win the championship anymore. California has been winning for too long,” Musk said at The Wall Street Journal's CEO Council summit Tuesday during an interview with Editor-in-Chief Matt Murray.

When asked if he had moved from California, Musk first emphasized the presence his companies still have in the nation's largest state.

“First of all, Tesla and SpaceX obviously have massive operations in California,” the South Africa native said, according to CNBC. “In fact, it’s worth noting that Tesla is the last car company still manufacturing cars in California. SpaceX is the last aerospace company still doing significant manufacturing in California.”

“There used to be over a dozen car plants in California, and California used to be the center of aerospace manufacturing,” he continued. “My companies are the last two left. ... That’s a very important point to make.”

“For myself, yes, I have moved to Texas.”

Musk added that he believes Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area have “too much influence on the world” but that it likely will be reduced as a result of the pandemic, the Journal reported.

Musk is just the latest in a series of startup executives and employees who have moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to cheaper locations since the pandemic forced many to begin working remotely.

Last week, Hewlett Packard Enterprise announced that it planned to move its headquarters to Texas, and earlier this year, Palantir Technologies Inc., founded in the Bay Area in 2003, moved its base of operations to Denver.

In August, Palantir CEO Alex Karp accused Silicon Valley of being out of touch with the principles and societal needs of everyday Americans.

“Our society has effectively outsourced the building of software that makes our world possible to a small group of engineers in an isolated corner of the country,” Karp wrote in a letter to investors. “The engineering elite of Silicon Valley may know more than most about building software. But they do not know more about how society should be organized or what justice requires.”

During his remarks Tuesday, Musk also condemned government regulations and bureaucracy that he says have limited new startup creation by favoring monopolies and duopolies.

“You have a forest of redwoods, and the little trees can’t grow,” Musk said, adding that the government should “just get out of the way” of innovators.

In May, Musk threatened to move Tesla out of California when a countywide stay-at-home order prevented his U.S. car factory from reopening, which Musk claimed was “fascist,” likening the restrictions to “forcibly imprisoning people in their homes.”

Musk eventually announced his intentions to reopen the factory in defiance of the health order, which the Alameda County Public Health Department responded to within days by saying it would allow the Tesla factory to reopen under specific safety conditions.

In July, Musk announced that Tesla would be building a $1 billion assembly plant near Austin, Texas, its second in the U.S. and first outside Silicon Valley. Musk’s SpaceX also has operations in Texas.

Post Google Suffers Worldwide Outage

Google suffers worldwide outage with Gmail, YouTube and other services down. Img Google.

Outages disrupted vast majority of services, but search remained largely unaffected.

Google has suffered a worldwide outage, with failures reported across the company’s services, including Gmail, Google Calendar and YouTube.

Beginning at about 11.50am GMT, the outages appeared to have affected the vast majority of Google’s services, apart from search which operated largely unaffected.

Despite the universal nature of the outages, the company’s automated systems reported no problems for any services for the first 30 minutes of the outage, across both consumer-facing and its cloud tools for developers. At 12.25pm, the company published an update, saying “We’re aware of a problem … affecting a majority of users. The affected users are unable to access [Google services].”

The outage appeared to be related to the company’s authentication tools, which manage how users log in to services run by both Google and third-party developers.

That means that tools that do not work without logging in, such as Gmail and Google Calendar, were unavailable entirely. Third-party services that use Google’s authentication platform continued to be accessible for users who are already logged in, but failed when users tried to sign in or out of the service.

Services such as YouTube failed entirely for users who are already signed in to a Google account, but could be accessed in a “private browsing” mode in order to view the signed-out version of the site, which continued to work.

The outage severely disrupted services for many workplaces. Google Suite, one of the services affected, manages not only email communication, but also intra-office messaging through the Chat and Meet services, and actual work through Google Docs, Sheets and Slides.

Even those who use other services experienced problems. Workers reliant on Slack, for instance – the Salesforce-owned chat app – could only talk to colleagues who were already logged in at the time of the outage.

For those working from home, the outage affected Google’s Smart Home services, including the Google Home smart speakers and the Nest thermostats and smoke alarms. While they operate in a fail-safe mode, users cannot access the services through an app to change their settings.

Post AI

Artificial intelligence co-pilots US military aircraft for the first time

A U-2 Dragon Lady assigned to the 9th Reconnaissance Wing prepares to land at Beale Air Force, California, Dec. 15, 2020. This flight marks a major leap forward for national defense as artificial intelligence took flight aboard a military aircraft for the first time in the history Dept. of Defense. The AI algorithm, developed by Air Combat Command's U-2 Federal Laboratory, trained the AI to execute specific in-flight tasks that would otherwise be done by the pilot. The flight was part of a specifically constructed scenario pitting the AI against another dynamic computer algorithm in order to prove both the new technology capability, and its ability to work in coordination with a human. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Luis A. Ruiz-Vazquez).

(CNN) Artificial intelligence helped co-pilot a U-2 "Dragon Lady" spy plane during a test flight Tuesday, the first time artificial intelligence has been used in such a way aboard a US military aircraft.

Mastering artificial intelligence or "AI" is increasingly seen as critical to the future of warfare and Air Force officials said Tuesday's training flight represented a major milestone.

"The Air Force flew artificial intelligence as a working aircrew member onboard a military aircraft for the first time, December 15," the Air Force said in a statement, saying the flight signaled "a major leap forward for national defense in the digital age."

The Artificial Intelligence algorithm, known as "ARTUµ," was developed by researchers at the Air Force's Air Combat Command U-2 Federal Laboratory.
The AI system has been "trained ... to execute specific in-flight tasks that otherwise would be done by the pilot," the statement said.

Co-pilots
During Tuesday's training flight, the ARTUµ algorithm partnered with a human Air Force officer who was piloting the aircraft, with the AI system being "responsible for sensor employment and tactical navigation."

"Together, they flew a reconnaissance mission during a simulated missile strike. ARTUµ's primary responsibility was finding enemy launchers while the pilot was on the lookout for threatening aircraft, both sharing the U-2's radar," the Air Force statement said.

Air Force officials touted Tuesday's training flight as a major achievement.

"Putting AI safely in command of a US military system for the first time ushers in a new age of human-machine teaming and algorithmic competition. Failing to realize AI's full potential will mean ceding decision advantage to our adversaries," Dr. Will Roper, the assistant secretary of the Air Force for acquisition, technology and logistics, said in the statement announcing the test.

'Incredibly powerful'
A Pentagon report released earlier this year said that "China views AI as critical to its future military and industrial power" and that Beijing "is making strategic investments worldwide in AI to reap national security and economic benefits."

"During the past five years, China has made achievements in AI-enabled unmanned surface vessels, which China plans to use to patrol and bolster its territorial claims in the South China Sea. China has also tested unmanned tanks as part of research efforts to integrate AI into ground forces' equipment," the report added.

In two separate speeches earlier this month, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley said that artificial intelligence and robotics will play a large role in the future of military conflicts in the next 10 to 15 years.

"Artificial intelligence: That is an incredibly powerful technology that is coming very, very fast, not only in civil society in the commercial world, but it's going to have tremendously powerful applications in the military," Milley said in a speech at the Brookings Institution.

"Maybe (in) 10 to 15 years max, you are going to see the widespread, ubiquitous use of robots throughout most militaries in the world," Milley said in a second speech.

Post Zoox

Zoox Reveals Autonomous Ride-Sharing Boxcar With No Steering Wheel

img Zoox

Long before Amazon acquired the self-driving startup Zoox in June, the Bay Area-based company was prototyping its own custom-designed and built self-driving taxi from the ground up. On Monday, it finally publicly showed off the new car.

While still a prototype and with no set dates for the fleet to hit the road, the Zoox electric robotaxi reimagines the entire premise of a car. While many self-driving car companies — like Aurora (also Amazon-backed) and Waymo — are modifying existing vehicles with sensor and computer technology, Zoox has been developing a new idea of what an autonomous vehicle looks like.

Even with Amazon now in charge, Zoox is sticking to its ride-sharing goals. "We’re reinventing personal transportation," Zoox CEO Aicha Evans said in a Zoom interview after the Monday reveal. "It's always what we’ve been about." She did concede that "down the line," Zoox could play a part in moving packages and other services that Amazon is known for.

But for now, Zoox has a new look for post-COVID-19 taxi service. It starts with removing the steering wheel and the usual driving pedals and seat. Instead of the typical car set-up, it's a bidirectional vehicle with two benches facing each other. It can carry four passengers, who can interact with the robo-vehicle through a touchscreen and the Zoox smartphone app that riders use to order the vehicle.

With touch controls for music and climate for your seat, each passenger can have their own experience. The ride may be a trip with a group, or you could be mixed in with strangers. Again, this idea is supposed to take off once the pandemic is (hopefully) behind us.

The cars will be serviced at hubs where the dual-battery vehicles will also be wirelessly charged. Zoox says the charge lasts for 16 hours of driving.

img zoox

The concept is similar to Cruise's Origin, which was unveiled at the beginning of this year as a driverless, steering wheel-less box for ride-sharing in San Francisco.

Don't expect to see the Zoox taxis on the road anytime soon. The company is still testing the autonomous technology on modified Toyota vehicles on public roads in Las Vegas, San Francisco, and throughout the Bay Area. But Evans expects to target those same locations once the Zoox robotaxis start taking off.

[Video, cannot display click on the article link below to view.]

Instead of "Ubering"somewhere, Zoox wants to become the verb that means to get around, no driver necessary.

Post Digital Deepak

Deepak Chopra Made a Digital Clone of Himself, and Other Celebs Could Soon Follow.

I spoke with Digital Deepak and then talked to the real one: Here's a preview of how celebrities could AI themselves.

This isn't Deepak Chopra. It's Digital Baby Deepak.

I'm sitting down on a sofa, talking to what looks like a Facetime with Deepak Chopra on a phone. It's not him, though. It's an animated, sometimes realistic, talking head. He asks me how I feel. I end up discussing work stress. He suggests a meditation.

For a few minutes, I'm having a little session with a Deepak that doesn't exist.

A few weeks later, I'm talking to actual Deepak Chopra on the phone about what I experienced. The successful author and personal transformation guru is launching a free AI version of himself, which will tap into his collected books and build a personal relationship with whoever's talking to him. The software, created by a company called The AI Foundation, is looking to use this technology to make virtual AI archives of anyone who wants to be immortalized or remembered. Mr. Chopra is the first on deck.

"Well, here's the reason I did it: I'm now 73 years old, and I'm in perfect health, I feel like I'm 35, but you know, the next chapter is physical death. This digital Deepak can actually consume my work after I'm gone, and probably improve on it because it learns with every interaction," Chopra tells me. He calls his AI "Digital Baby Deepak," because he sees it as a part of himself that will grow. "It can become a teenager soon and an adult, and ultimately a wise person, and it can do that very fast because it doesn't have the time limitations that humans have. It can learn simultaneously from all these interactions."

Deepak Chopra has explored AI frontiers before. Last year, he released an Alexa skill that played daily recorded reflections. This new AI initiative crosses over to add visuals, and far deeper interactive ambitions.

"I will learn from it, and it will learn from me.
I mean, we're twins, now." -Deepak Chopra

This Digital Deepak will personalize itself based on the details we give it, which could be a lot. "If you want, you can share anything you want with it privately, it'll be very ethical about that information, including your medical records if you wish to share with them," says Chopra, "And it will be able to consult with experts and give you advice."

Chopra also sees possibilities of using his digital self to learn more about his physical self. "I will learn from it, and it will learn from me. I mean, we're twins, now."

My mind races to consultations with holograms of historical figures, like in Watchmen's alternate-2019 universe, and VR experiences I've actually had, virtually meeting Holocaust survivors. I also think about talking to my dad, who's been gone for seven years.

Post Adobe Flash

Adobe Officially Ends Flash Support, Recommends Uninstalling Immediately

Adobe in 2017 announced plans to end support for its Flash browser plug-in at the end of 2020. Now that it's officially 2021, support for the software has ended, and Adobe will begin blocking content from running in Flash Player beginning on January 12.

Flash's elimination should not heavily impact users because many popular browsers have already moved away from the format. Additionally, iPhone and iPad users are not affected by the change, as iOS and iPadOS have never supported Flash.

Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs offered his "Thoughts on Flash" in a 2010 open letter, criticizing Adobe's software for its reliability, incompatibility with mobile sites, and battery drain on mobile devices. Jobs also said that Adobe was "painfully slow to adopt enhancements to Apple's platforms" and further innovation from Apple would not be hindered by a "cross platform development tool."

In the past, Adobe's Flash Player had continually suffered from vulnerabilities that exposed Mac and PC users to malware and other security risks that caused vendors like Microsoft and Apple to work tirelessly to keep up with security fixes.

Since Flash Player will no longer receive updates, Adobe recommends that all users immediately remove the software "to help protect their systems."

Post Rumble Sues YouTube For At Least 2 Billion

YouTube rival Rumble is Suing Google for at Least $2 Billion, Saying the Search Giant Abuses its Monopoly Power.

Rumble has become popular with conservatives, who say they are suppressed by Big Tech. Business Insider

* The Canadian video-sharing platform Rumble is suing Google over claims the tech giant is "unfairly rigging its search algorithm" to preference YouTube videos in its search results.

* Rumble is a direct rival to YouTube that has become popular with conservative US figures who say they are being censored by established tech platforms.

* The lawsuit indicates that Google and other major tech players may face antitrust headaches from smaller, conservative-friendly rivals.

* Rumble's lawsuit accuses the tech giant of "willfully and unlawfully created and maintained a monopoly in the online video-sharing platform market."

The video-sharing site Rumble has accused Google of "unfairly rigging its search algorithm" to favor YouTube's videos in search results, marking the tech giant's latest in a series of antitrust headaches.

Rumble, based in Toronto, filed a lawsuit in California on Monday claiming that Google had unfairly cost it viewers and advertising revenue because of its search algorithms and preinstallation of the YouTube app on Android devices.

"Google, through its search engine, was able to wrongfully divert massive traffic to YouTube, depriving Rumble of the additional traffic, users, uploads, brand awareness and revenue it would have otherwise received," the complaint said.

Google has faced a string of antitrust actions over its search dominance the past few years, drawing attention from US authorities, European Union legislators, and market competitors alike.

Rumble has become popular with conservatives in the past year or so, encouraged by Republican Rep. Devin Nunes and others. The company says it has more than 2 million creators using the site.

Influential right-wingers in the US have taken an aggressive stance against established US tech firms such as Facebook, Google, Apple, and Amazon, a position lately intensified by the platforms teaming up to essentially block the right-wing social-messaging platform Parler.

Currently Rumble's list of most watched videos includes the conservative political commentator Dan Bongino, the Fox News host Sean Hannity, and the conservative YouTubers Diamond and Silk. Its CEO, Chris Pavlovski, regularly posts updates on Twitter about right-wing figures joining the platform.

In its complaint, Rumble alleges that Google "willfully and unlawfully created and maintained a monopoly in the online video-sharing platform market in at least two ways."

"First," it added, "by manipulating the algorithms by which searched-for-video results are listed, Google insures that the videos on YouTube are listed first, and that those of its competitors...are listed way down the list...

"Second, by pre-installation of the YouTube app as the default online video-sharing app on Google smart phones, and by entering into anti-competitive, illegal tying agreements with other smartphone manufacturers to do the same."

The firm indicated it was seeking damages of at least $2 billion.

Rumble's complaint comes shortly after Parler sued Amazon.

Amazon had hosted Parler's service on its cloud service, AWS, but booted the firm off after the US Capitol riot last week. Parler argued in its subsequent suit that Amazon was behaving anticompetitively. Parler's lawsuit indicates that sites and apps banned or penalized by the US tech giants over violent speech are willing to use the emerging antitrust sentiment in court.

A Google representative told The Wall Street Journal: "We will defend ourselves against these baseless claims."

Rumble and Google did not immediately respond to requests for further comment from Business Insider.

Jeff Bezos will no longer be Amazon's C.E.O. as of July 2021. He is handing over the reins to Andy Jassy. However, Bezos will become the Executive Chairman of Amazon's board of directors.

Post Bernie Sanders Vocal About Jeff Bezos

Bernie Sanders rips into Jeff Bezos: 'You are worth $182 billion ...
why are you doing everything in your power to stop your workers' from unionizing?'

* Bezos declined Sanders' invitation to testify at a hearing, but the senator had harsh words for him.

* Sanders criticized Amazon's countering of a union drive in Alabama despite the CEO's record wealth.

* The hearing included testimony from a pro-union worker at Amazon's Bessemer warehouse.

At a hearing on Wednesday morning, Sen. Bernie Sanders spoke critically about Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, who declined Sanders' invitation to testify, and Elon Musk, the two wealthiest men.

"Bezos and Musk now own more wealth than the bottom 40%. Meanwhile, we're looking at more hunger in America than at any time in decades," Sanders said in his opening remarks at the Senate Budget Committee hearing, which was titled The Income and Wealth Inequality Crisis in America.

"If he was with us this morning, I would ask him the following question ... Mr. Bezos, you are worth $182 billion — that's a B," Sanders said. "One hundred eighty-two billion dollars, you're the wealthiest person in the world. Why are you doing everything in your power to stop your workers in Bessemer, Alabama, from joining a union?"

The unionization push being voted on at Amazon's Bessemer fulfillment center has been the focal point of a high-profile labor dispute between the behemoth "everything store" and the Retail, Wholesale, and Department Store Union. Amazon has aggressively pushed its workers to vote against unionization, launching a campaign called "Do It Without Dues" to encourage workers to stick to the status quo.

Sanders pointed out the disparity between Bezos' wealth growth during the pandemic and the struggles of rank-and-file workers.

"Jeff Bezos has become $77 billion richer during this horrific pandemic, while denying hundreds of thousands of workers who work at Amazon paid sick leave," he said.

Jennifer Bates, an employee at the Bessemer warehouse who testified at Wednesday's hearing, said the unionization efforts were an attempt to "have a level playing field." Bates cited tough working conditions, long hours, and a lack of job security as major drivers of the unionization efforts.

"Amazon brags it pays workers above the minimum wage," she said. "What they don't tell you is what those jobs are really like. And they certainly don't tell you what they can afford."

When asked what having a union would mean to her and her coworkers, Bates said it would result in their voices being "amplified" and a "sense of empowerment, "and not just at the Amazon in Bessemer but all over the country."

"We take employee feedback seriously, including Ms. Bates's, but we don't believe her comments represent the more than 90% of her fulfillment center colleagues who say they'd recommend Amazon as a great place to work to friends and family," an Amazon spokesperson told Insider. "We encourage people to speak with the hundreds of thousands of Amazon employees who love their jobs, earn at least $15 an hour, receive comprehensive healthcare and paid leave benefits, prefer direct dialogue with their managers, and voted Amazon #2 on the Forbes best employers list in 2020."

While much of the hearing was devoted to the Amazon unionization fight, which will be decided at the end of March, Sanders said "Amazon and Jeff Bezos are not alone" and decried the "corporate greed" that drives income inequality.

Others who testified at the hearing included former Labor Secretary Robert Reich, who said unions were important and cited the steep decline in union membership since the labor heyday of the mid-1900s.

Sanders has been a vocal critic of Amazon, while President Joe Biden has taken a softer approach in referencing the union drive. In a statement earlier in March, Biden condemned "anti-union propaganda" from large companies but stopped short of naming Amazon.

Default Jeff Bezos’s Ex-Wife, Philanthropist Mackenzie Scott.....

~~~
Perhaps to make sure Amazon workers are paid and treated fairly until they can unionize, Philanthropist Mackenzie Scott, Bezo's ex wife & her new hubby, could donate funds through their giving pledge!
If he won't do the right thing maybe she will, considering she wouldn't have half that amount of money made off the worker's backs at Amazon!
DoorDash’s Latest Move Is Another Healthy Reminder That It Is, In Fact, a Giant Parasite!
The delivery app is suing NYC over a law that would give restaurants access to customer data — showing once again that it cares about the wellbeing of restaurants about as much as any bloodsucker cares about its host.
DoorDash is yet again showing that it sees restaurants as merely a supplier in its relationship with diners, despite more and more customers seeing companies like DoorDash as an unfortunate middleman between them and restaurants. The delivery app — the largest in the country — is suing New York City over a new law that would require it to share customer data with restaurants, claiming that it is a violation of the First Amendment.
Default And once again, Costco placing purchase limits on toilet paper, other products due to COVID-related demand..
Brett Molina, USA TODAY Fri, September 24, 2021, 10:45 AM
If you're planning to get toilet paper, paper towels or bottled water on your next Costco shopping trip, you might find there's a limit to how much you can buy. You can blame supply-chain issues and the rise of the delta variant.
During the retailer's quarterly earnings call Thursday, Costco chief financial officer Richard Galanti cited supply chain issues such as port delays, container shortages and COVID disruptions for the limits on purchases.
Galanti also cited a spike in demand linked to the delta variant, which has quickly spread across the U.S.
Default USPS mail delivery is about to get permanently slower and temporarily more expensive...
USA TODAY Tue, September 28, 2021,
Americans who have been frustrated with the slow service of the U.S. Postal Service since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic probably won’t be thrilled to hear this: The service is about to get even slower.
Starting Friday, USPS will “implement new service standards for First Class Mail and Periodicals,” a spokeswoman for USPS, said in an email to USA TODAY. The changes mean an increased time-in-transit for mail traveling long distances, such as from New York to California. Frum said that “most first class mail (61%) and periodicals (93%) will be unaffected” by the changes. Single-piece first-class mail traveling within the same region will still have a delivery time of two days.
USPS defines first-class mail as “standard sized letters and flats,” Frum said. That’s different from first-class packages, which are typically used for shipping smaller, lightweight packages. Currently, first-class mail and first-class packages have the same delivery standards, but that will change beginning Friday.
The changes to service standard times are part of USPS’s 10-year strategic plan, announced by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy in March. The plan has drawn heavy criticism from elected officials. DeJoy took his position in June 2020 despite no previous experience in the USPS. The position of Postmaster General is not appointed or nominated by a president, but rather appointed by the independent Postal Service Board of Governors.
Sidebar: Trump may not of appointed this S.O.B. directedly but you know darn well he pulled some strings or greased some palms to get him in there!
