"We haven't seen anything yet": Food prices continue to climb!
CBS MoneyWatch

If you think you're paying more at the grocery store – you're not wrong. Wholesale prices are at record highs and some items are scarce. CBS L.A. saw limited supplies of things like milk, butter, soda, snacks, paper products and baking supplies at stores it visited. "Retailers who are filling out their orders to fill their shelves are not getting what they order," Lembert said. "It's estimated to be anywhere between 50 and 70 percent of what they order." The nation’s supply chain has greatly slowed due to the backup of container ships and a shortage of truck drivers. Many retailers are urging customers to start buying holiday gifts now.

Default Betsy DeVos' family claims $100 million con with investment in health care startup Theranos..

The family of former U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos family claims they were misled by founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes into investing $100 million into failed health care startup Theranos, NBC reports.

Tuesday's testimony in the trial of Elizabeth Holmes revealed that the DeVos family was originally going to invest $50 million but later chose to double it to $100 million after speaking with Holmes, NBC reports.

I guess the Voss family never heard that old adage 'If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is'!

Default Green Bay post a record $70 million in operating profits, as well as a record $507 million in total revenue yet......

In what continues to be one of the greatest marketing schemes in NFL history, the Green Bay Packers are set to offer 300,000 “stock shares” to fans on Tuesday morning. But as the franchise has explained the previous five times it's created such a sale, the “stock” is essentially nothing more than a piece of team memorabilia. Or given its lack of utility, a paper version of cryptocurrency that can’t be spent anywhere.

Think of it as a printing press version of PackerCoin, BitGreen or LeapThereum. Fun to own, impossible to spend.

That’s what this “stock” is. For $300 a “share” (plus shipping and handling), fans get to show their devotion to the team and call themselves “shareholders” or “stockholders.” Or in the case of some who really want to stretch it, “owners” of the team. But the pieces of paper being sold come with no voting rights, no rights to profits, and no ability to transfer or sell — basically, everything that makes an actual share of stock in a company legitimate.

Now what was it P.T. Barnum said about a sucker being born every minute and that old Proverb, a fool and his money are soon parted.

Default Midwest faces some of the country's worst price hikes on gas...

In the 12-state Midwest region, energy prices – which includes gasoline, electricity, and natural gas – jumped 33.3% in October over the last 12 months, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

That's largely due to a spike in prices for gasoline – up 53% in the Midwest over the year.

The Midwest region is composed of Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Default DeJoy's days may be numbered...

President Biden on Friday announced plans to nominate two former federal officials to the U.S. Postal Service’s governing board, replacing key allies of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, including its Democratic chairman.

The move was a surprise to postal officials and even members of Congress, according to three people with knowledge of the matter, and casts doubt on DeJoy’s future at the agency. It potentially gives liberals on the panel two crucial votes to oust the postal chief, who can be removed only by the board.

Default United, Delta, & Alaska airlines....

NEW YORK, Dec 24 (Reuters) - U.S. airlines canceled hundreds of flights on Christmas Eve amid a surge in COVID-19 infections driven by the Omicron variant but millions of wary Americans carried on with travel plans through a second pandemic-clouded winter holiday. United Airlines and Delta Air Lines both canceled dozens of Christmas Eve flights because of staff shortages amid the surge in infections.

United Airlines canceled 177 flights and Delta canceled 150 flights, data from the website FlightAware showed as of 11:56 a.m. Eastern Time (1656 GMT). More than 2,100 flights globally were scrapped, with 527 cancellations within, into, or out of the United States, according to the site.

The cancellations upended some plans but many Americans pushed ahead with holiday travel.

Sidebar: No doubt in weeks to come we'll read about these Americans who "pushed ahead" in regards to new Covid statistics!

Default Royal Caribbean pauses some cruise operations due to Omicron concerns..

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd has paused some of its cruise operations amid rising numbers of COVID-19 infections due to the Omicron variant.

IMHO, anyone who would take a cruise right now doesn't have the brains they were born with!
