Default Coronavirus ~ COVID-19

Coronavirus ~ I never thought we would be facing this pandemic , but we are.
I have pulmonary fibrosis since 2014 and I've been fighting lung cancer since 2015 and I won't let this virus take me. I just canceled all my cancer screenings I had scheduled for this month and I won't leave the house. I'm very scared knowing it could kill me. I don't want to be a statistic to this virus. I go back and forth on how this virus started, I listened to the medical facts , on the news . Part of me wants to believe them and another part of me thinks it could be an act of terrorism , which we end up being pawns in the games of some very evil corrupt leaders of country's. I am torn between wanting to be brave and face this virus by going out into the public or use my common sense and stay away from the public because I am at high risk.

What are your thoughts ? How are you handling this upset in our lives ?

I recently spent hundreds in supply's and food, for myself and family. My daughter is my caretaker, I don't want for her to have to be in the stores as frequent as she has had to be on a regular basis. The university's have been closing , students racing to get home . I live in a very busy area with the Boston Marathon next month which may be canceled. A conference at Bio-Gen in Cambridge , Ma. exposed the virus to hundreds several already testing positive. The way this virus has escalated makes me think if it wasn't an act of terrorism. We will never know for certain.
(((((((((((((( everyone ))))))))))))))

God bless us all ,

Im not freaking out yet...

Only taking precautions for what needs to be done.. And no im not hoarding TP or wipes etc... That's wrong to do that on so many levels.

Wash wash wash hands is key.

Masks wont help nor will other stuff its just preventative measures for some folks.. Most masks are made in other countries anyways. If need be i will make my own.

Maybe a mask wont prevent the virus from entering but the point is that a mask might prevent you from touching your face, on average, 20 times a day and that's where the real benefit is...and wtf is wrong with masks being made "in other countries"?

They are made in countries that have a huge impact on the industry. I dont think you wanna wear a mask that could have possibly been produced by someone with the virus...you dont know if they have it, if they do or dont wash their hands etc.

I'm a bit of a germophobe anyway, so I've got a good supply of hand sanitizer. I never realized before how many times a day I touch my face, though. It's a lot. I've become self conscious about it in front of my coworkers.

As I wrote in the zombie thread, I'm going to stop eating in restaurants and ordering takeout for awhile. I stocked up on some cooking essentials. It will be better for me anyway.

I'm hoping our boss approves a work-from-home plan - but that's mainly just because I want to work from home. We have a small office of only five people, and each of us has our own office. One of my coworkers does have kids, though, and I don't like how they spread germs everywhere they go.

I saw in another thread and on the news that Tom Hanks has it.

Sad to say, but if a popular American celebrity has it maybe that will get Americans to wake up and pay attention to this.

If we could get adequate testing in this country, I am sure the positive cases would be exponentially larger. So many people with their head in the sand…

Eat good, sleep good, wash your hands.

Why do our police have to waste valuable time moving and keeping idiots from gathering in our parks. Some people must be brain dead with their bodies to soon follow if they don't start taking precautions.

Default Are you all ok?

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to ask if all of you are safe and sound.
Here in the uk today we have had our highest death rate figures in one day. Over 980 people.
I hope that all of you are staying as safe as you possibly can.
Like other countries we have had some idiots who have thought they can just go about without a care in the world as normal.
Please stay at home if you can, because this isn't going away for a very long time.
Let me know how you are, especially the people i have chatted to on here.
Love to you all xx

Apple and Google are building a coronavirus tracking system into iOS and Android

Potentially a huge step forward in the fight against COVID-19

*If the link doesn’t work this article is from The Verge. Similar story also on Bloomberg.

While I understand the reasoning and logic (probable necessity) behind this, the privacy advocate within me is squirming.

Fire, I don't get she wasn't more proactive! Hell she knew warm weather was coming DAYS ago! AND then to add insult to injury, she puts it in effect starting tonight at 11 pm when all the idiots will have spent the day congregating either in the parks on down on Alki....

The boy and I both went through that phase. It _seemed_ like just a cold, at first. Then the symptoms got worse, and his boyfriend tested positive, and then he tested positive, too. Three weeks later we're all still sick.

Then today on NPR's _Here and Now_ I heard a story about long term Covid. Apparently I'm not the only person who thought it was supposed to be over in 14 days. There are people who have been experiencing symptoms for nine months, with no end in sight.

What Dippin Dots have in Common with the Covid-19 Vaccine

Remember Dippin Dots? Those weird little dots of ice cream that come in a cup at places like stadiums and shopping malls? Well as it turns out, Dippin Dots have to be stored at -49*F.

Although the Covid-19 Vaccines have to be stored at similarly sub-zero frigid temps, the method of moving Dippin Dots around the country is the same for the vaccines. It's done with dry ice. The dry ice has to be replaced every 5 days in the supply chain while the vaccines are stored and transported. It's dangerous to handle the dry ice, both because it can cause burns on skin and also because the evaporating carbon dioxide takes up space where air would otherwise be. Popular Science has an article about the supply chains for the Covid-19 vaccines and also Dippin Dots: https://www.popsci.com/story/health/...ots-ice-cream/.

Default Vaccine Calculator: How many people may get a COVID-19 vaccine before you?

Vaccine Calculator: How many people may get a COVID-19 vaccine before you?

Answer the following questions on this website to find out how many people may be vaccinated before you in your area. Your information will not be stored or saved in any way.

This is only for people living in the U.S.

Questions/Selections:
  1. What state do you live in?
  2. Select county or city you live in.
  3. Select an industry or workplace type you work in.
  4. How old are you?
  5. Do you have any of the following conditions (select all that apply)?
  6. Pick a residence type.
Then you’ll see your results.

Here are my results:
I’m in Phase 1B.

There are an estimated 1,920,409 people in front of you in California. That includes high risk workers in health care facilities and first responders. In total, about 5% of the state population will probably get the vaccine before you.

There are an estimated 3,760,615 people in the Phase 1B group.

The primary hospital in my county is now full and they are sending people about an hour north to a more rural hospital where numbers are lower.

The school district where my sister-in-law teaches and where my nephews go to school just went remote because there are so many teachers on quarantine they can't keep in-school learning. I don't know how she's going to teach high school honors classes while home schooling a kindergartener with autism and ADD/ADHD and a third grader who is just going to want to play video games and tell fart jokes. I can't even go over to help. Hopefully this is very short term- the remote learning. Their virtual school is 6.5 hours on line for all elementary school age kids. I don't know how they think that is healthy at all. At least the little one is excused from a lot due to his IEP.

CDC Issues New Guidance About Vaccinations for People with Underlying Health Conditions

[Video: Cannot Display. Click on the link below.]

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Saturday issued a new guidance stating that people with underlying health conditions can receive a coronavirus vaccine.

The guidance explains that “adults of any age with certain underlying medical conditions are at increased risk for severe illness from the virus that causes COVID-19.”

Thus, the CDC added that those vaccines that have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration “may be administered to people with underlying medical conditions provided they have not had a severe allergic reaction to any of the ingredients in the vaccine.”

The CDC explained that people with weakened immune systems due to other illnesses or medication may also receive a COVID-19 vaccine, but they should be aware that limited safety data is available on the effects of the vaccines on these individuals.

Additionally, while people living with HIV were included in clinical trials, safety data for this group is not yet available.

The CDC also stated in its Saturday guidance that individuals with autoimmune conditions may take the vaccine, although there is no data currently available for the safety of the vaccine in this demographic.

Those who have experienced Guillain-Barré syndrome — a condition in which the body begins to attack parts of its own nervous system — may also receive the vaccine doses. The guidance adds that following vaccination during clinical trials, there have been no instances of the syndrome.

People who have previously experienced Bell’s palsy — a condition that causes muscle weakness in one side of the face — may also receive a vaccine. Some participants during clinical trials did develop Bell's palsy following vaccination, but it did not occur at a rate above that expected in the general population.

Despite the start of distribution of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, the CDC recommends that people who get vaccinated should continue to follow current coronavirus health and safety protocols, such as wearing a mask, practicing social distancing and avoiding crowds.

According to the CDC, nearly 2 million people have received their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine as of Saturday. Both the vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech and the one from Moderna require two doses to be administered several weeks apart.

Final trial data on both vaccines showed them to have a roughly 95 percent efficacy rate at preventing COVID-19, although Moderna’s vaccine has an 86 percent efficacy rate for those over the age of 65.

Health care workers have been prioritized in the initial distribution of the vaccine, and the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted last week to advise the CDC to include those 75 and older and specific front-line essential workers, including emergency responders and teachers, in the next phase of coronavirus vaccinations.
