There are all kinds of stereotypes-including age.
I actually had a woman at work one time tell me she got her hair cut short because she thought that only younger women looked good with long hair. This is while she is looking at my long hair and I am definitely not a "younger woman". Btw, I have long hair because first and foremost, I like long hair on myself. On the other hand, I do dig crew-cuts, particularly on my butch. I just love to run my hand over the top of it
