As a person who grew up on the reservation, who knows her culture knows who she is. Knows how to live in two worlds, and as a educated woman. The exploitation, romanticism, and commercialism of my culture even within my own sub culture (gay culture) never fails to amaze and disgust me. And because most people fail the find truth and accept what is, the lies continue to perpetuate themselves into more romanticized ideas. Hey as long as your making a quick buck right? "Merica is great is it not.
We all have our opinions and this is just mine. |

I looked for the mourning thread but could not find it.....
found this ..... and it feels right ..... my niece is .. Ojibwa , she passed away last wed. I am praying for her soul and lighting a candle , she had such a good life , and doing so well with a career , a nice home 2 awesome daughters ... but then got into a very dark space , which over the past several yrs , ended taking her own life last wed. Leanna I will miss you so much. You were my family and my heart is breaking for you. Your girls are strong , beautiful and so mature smart for there age. I will be here for them if they ever need anything. ................. now today ...... another dear close friend of our local community and such a good hearted person , all her life fighting with depression and bi polar , has took me years to try and understand her mind set and learn how to handle it and distract with things , and how to over look some things. well all in all she was the kind of person that always was helping others always. She tired to take her life very early sat morning. and is now in ICU , i been spending a lot of time with her since sunday. today there is a decision to make a very hard one, as from many test there is still no brain activity, the family will decide to turn the machines off. my heart has been breaking , I know its best. I know her soul can be at peace . I was the last one to speak with her fri night. She seemd ok as i hung up with her. At 1st she was upset and on one of her many many usual rants about a gf cheating was part of it all.. but then i got her in a better mood so i had thought. well anyways. I know what will have to be done. I said my good byes to her last night. They let me sit there a lone with her for a long time. I will miss her very much. what a whirl wind she can be .. when the wind whirls like crazy i will always think of her.. Beth love you you are and always will be a good friend. Great Spirit .. please take care of these 2 special angles as they head to there return Journey home.

If you don't mind, I'll copy your post and place it in there. It is a prayer thread for all denominations to share grief and prayer thoughts. http://www.butchfemmeplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1247 |

Hi all, natives and others...
When I was in early recovery a female part native was burning sage... I asked what that was and she told me...she told me she wanted to sage me, so I went along with it, she told me to pray while she was saging me. When she was done I truly felt at peace...It was so cool.. Since then I sage myself when I'm feeling good or down and afterwards I always feel calm and better...its a good feeling

Native american
I was blessed with Innu ancestors. They are the caribou people of Labrador Canada. Although they are little known they still thrive but are beggars
in their own land. The land robbed of nickel and other resources and left great empty holes in the place of fertile land and trees and clean water. They can no longer follow the caribou and live on reservations on the coast. I only know what has been passed down in words and some old pictures. With their way of life gone there is only alcohol and drunk adults with children that huff daily. Many suicides among the people. I learned to do many things from my Ojibwa partner (now passed) of how to use sage and sweet grass. Know the meaning of the drum and the sacred ways to live and show appreciation of all that the Creator has given us. All of these wonderful gifts are sacred and should be respected. The animals, the plants and mother earth. I attend powwows then they are held In summer and feel the presence of those gone on before me. We are all children of the earth and all animals are our brothers and sisters. We should use them as intended and give thanks for their lives we take to survive and never hurt or abuse them. ty for this site. |

looking forward, I am filled with vision, looking upwards I am filled with strength, looking within, I discover peace ~ Quero Apache Prayer

Happy Holidays
The First Native American Christmas Carol
According to Huron tradition, a Jesuit missionary priest, Fr Jean de Brebeuf, wrote their first Christmas Carol around 1640-41. The Huron built a small chapel of fir trees and bark in honor of the manger at Bethlehem. Aloki ekwatatennonten shekwachiendaen Iontonk ontatiande ndio sen tsatonnharonnion Ouarie onnawakueton ndio sen tsatonnharonnion Iesous ahatonnia! Within a lodge of broken bark The tender Babe was found, A ragged robe of rabbit skin Wrapped His beauty 'round; But as the hunter braves drew nigh, The angel song rang loud and high: Jesus, your King is born, Jesus is born, In excelsis gloria.

"The first peace, which is the most important,
is that which comes within the souls of people when they realize their relationship, their oneness, with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize that at the center of the universe dwells the Great Spirit, and that this center is really everywhere, it is within each of us." ~ Black Elk - Oglala Sioux ~

We live, we die, and like the grass and trees, renew ourselves from the soft earth of the grave. Stones crumble and decay, faiths grow old and they are forgotten, but new beliefs are born. The faith of the villages is dust now... but it will grow again... like the trees.
- Chief Joseph, Nez Perce (1840-1904)
