JUDI DENCH: My Passion for Trees
How I really like Judi Dench, and I will always remember her performance as Lady Macbeth in the Trevor Nunn's direction of that film (the most brilliant - I think - adaptation of that play, which had me absolutely glued to the screen). And now there is this really beautiful documentary of her sharing her love of trees. Personally, there has never been a tree that I didn't love. You know, I can't say that about people. How, when younger, there was nothing in the world that could stop me from climbing trees, smelling the healing scent of pine... I saw this documentary (JUDI DENCH: My Passion for Trees, BBC 2017) on TV on the Knowledge network. Judi Dench is the most wonderful lady, sharing her passion for trees, her woodland garden, as well as her passion for Shakespeare, and is absolutely delightful in this doc.

PBS American Masters: Johnny Carson (King of Late Night)
JC is my favorite stand up comedian (of all time). Lot's of comedian's have his TV show to thank for their own comedic standup careers (Jerry Seinfeld, David Letterman, Jay Leno, Ray Romano, Ellen DeGeneres, Gary Shandling, etc) because that's how they were made famous, practically overnight. JC was a liberal, politically. I personally loved how he took politicians of the day, years ago, to task. When I watch his old shows on YouTube, I often wonder what he'd say or do or how he'd roast politics today. |

Carl Sagan | The Cosmos (The Backbone of Night - Ep. 7)
I know Carl Sagan's TV show, The Cosmos, is not exactly a documentary, but in my mind, Sagan was no ordinary scientist and his ability to teach about scientific subjects remains of great interest to many, including myself. I like to watch anything I can find on the web, which features Carl Sagan.

Documentaries I like.
I do love National Geographic documentaries. The history and evolution of humans and animals. Documentaries that go around the world exploring how different races of people live and function in their daily lives. How different animal species survive and flourish. I really like documentaries on the human brain and how we do not know much about its real capabilities. How different addictions of drugs, alcohol, gambling, and food are affected by our brain and our living situations.

Palliative (Dying in Your Mother’s Arms)
WARNING: TRIGGERS
A documentary short exploring the conversations during end-of-life care with pediatric Palliative care specialist Dr. Nadia Tremonti. Palliative also highlights the caretakers and families working with Dr. Tremonti. Filmed in Detroit at the Children's Hospital of Michigan over several years 'Palliative' aims to introduce this vital area of care struggling to overcome the stigmas of death and dying. **Winner** People's Choice Award (Best Short Film) - Denver Film Festival ____________________ Here’s the trailer: ____________________ Here’s a link to view the full documentary at the New York Times: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/11/o...gtype=Homepage ____________________ And here is the accompanying article at the NYTimes: Dying in Your Mother’s Arms A palliative care doctor on finding a “good death” for children in the worst situations. If losing a child to an illness is one of the worst things that can happen to a family, Dr. Nadia Tremonti has made it her mission to make it better. It’s not easy. But as a pediatric palliative care physician, she works to ensure that terminally ill children receive quality end-of-life care. Palliative care is sometimes misunderstood to shorten life expectancy, but it’s a method that increases quality of life, improves symptom burden and decreases medical costs. We follow Dr. Tremonti in the short documentary above as she works to make death less medical and more human. In the process she asks a critical question: When a child is terminally ill, how can we make the end of life a better one? Video by John Beder Mr. Beder is a filmmaker. |

Hillary on Hulu
I have no words for how much respect and admiration I have for this woman. She is every little girls role model and every woman's mentor. She is brilliant, beautiful, strong and filled with a wisdom only a life of storied experience can give you. This documentary about her life and her accomplishments, experience both personal and professional, and everything inbetween is just gorgeous. It's also heart breaking, devastating and frightening. I literally cheered at certain moments watching it and cried during others. It's so well made and I can't recommend it enough. #ImStillWithHer

A British Mental Health Documentary: Only Human
I found this documentary fairly interesting. There is an elderly woman who lives down the road from my sister-in-law. Her husband died a few years ago, but we've noticed that she has a compulsive disorder and that she is a hoarder (example: her house is stuffed with so much stuff that she lives in her car, and her car too is stuffed as full as her house). It's truly sad. We made an inquiry on her behalf, with a local social worker who works with the elderly. She's probably not ever going to be healed of her secretive shopping and hoarding disorder, but I came across this the other night and watched it, hoping to better understand the condition (obsessive/compulsive disorders).

Rocking the foundations
History of the BLF "builders Labourers federation" NSW" in the 70's
this union introduced not only green bans to save parks and beautiful old buildings but alsi introduced pink bans on developement at a university where a gay man was sacked for being gay. They refused to continue work on the site until he was reinstated. their legacy of what was saved is still evident to this day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvPUJS8W0f0
