For a snack, I usually have a Odwalla bar<Banana Nut> and I drink plenty of water. For lunch, I have a fresh salad or sandwich with just mustard. For dinner I normally have chicken with brown rice and plenty of veggies. I do eat my chocolate<dark 85% or higher> and vanilla ice cream as a treat. As a result of everything, I lost 60lbs two years ago and I feel a lot better!

That is a great story about your fitness journey so far Zimmy! Kudos to you and yah, changing things up by taking up cycling will probably kick your weight loss goals into a higher gear. Our bodies are so smart and adapt so quickly, that if we don't mix it up,the gains or losses become smaller and smaller. My eating habits have been totally derailed and all over the map this last month. That being said,I want to be 10 lbs lighter by the start of spring so I will straighten all that out shortly Jet,let me know how the no starches in the evening works out for you,ok? Today was my circuit training day,and my best friend called right before I was going into the last round. We have been playing a serious game of phone tag,so I thought it more important to catch up with her and let the last circuit slide. Tomorrow is swim day,and since I am declaring Saturday,"do absolutely nothing day", I may squeeze in a little bike ride as well. Y'all have a great evening!!! Shad

I have a history of working out and then abandoning my program, whether it was successful or not. Being an 'all or nothing' kind of person, if I didn't give my all, it was easy for me to justify giving it up.

I'm a little older now and presumably wiser and realize that every step in the right direction counts and to try not to be so hard on myself. I'm in a bit of a lax period now but know that I will pick my program back up in short time.

My highest weight was 180. On a 5'1 1/2" frame, that is a lot to drag around. Many factors contributed to me reaching that weight but it basically boiled down to me not being happy. Now, I am happy with my life. So, when I gain 5-10 pounds due to changes in medicine or food intake or lifestyle changes, I am less critical of myself.

Now, I'm about 143, give or take. I'd like to eventually make my way back down to 125-128 but won't throw a hissy fit if it doesn't happen. 135 felt pretty good, so I'd be happy with that if I plateaued there again.

For me, it's more about the mental process than the physical one. But there are some days, after I've gone 5-6 miles on the elliptical, that I feel absolutely invincible and I love that feeling.

Thumbs up Happy Friday!!

So today was an ummm....3000 yd swim workout? I lose count sometimes! My coach threw in 5 400 yd repeats with 15 seconds rest between each, I managed to hold a time of 8 minutes 45 sec. for each repeat. Not bad for a rock with arms and legs! I was gonna try to sneak in a mountain bike ride, but I promised my mama I would remove the starter from her riding mower and take it in for rebuilding,so I did that instead. I am debating taking tomorrow off and studying all day or going to the pool early, then to the bike trails and then study??? Hmm....it's gonna be GORGEOUS weather....Hope everyone is having a great day and has a great weekend! Shad

Good Afternoon Shad,

Thank you! Now that it is cooler here, I can do more exercising. Trying to exercise in 100 degree heat is horrible and I don't like going out at after dark gets hard to find time to do it. Jet, I am going to take your tip and see if that works for me.

How is the cycling going?

Have a good Saturday,

Zimmy

I find it harder during the holidays to not eat sweets. I usually just eat what I can and if I want some sweets, I eat a little bit of it.

Talking I'm Baccccckkkkkkkk!!

Hello everyone! Zimmy the cycling has consisted of mainly playing in the woods on my mountain bike. Today I did my first 10k race since injuring my hamstring in October. I felt great, and because I was running with a trainer partner who needed encouragement,I stayed with him and didn't try to set the woods on fire with my non-blazing speed! Took it nice and easy and finished in 1:14:24 without ever breathing hard! It made me forget about the pressures of school for a while and I had the opportunity to catch up with lots of folks from the running, cycling, triathlon community here I haven't seen in ages!So it was a great day to be alive and healthy and playing outdoors! Happy Weekend everybody! Shad

Congrats Shad and it sounds like you had fun. I am about to head out for a powerwalk in this 50's degree weather and enjoy it....

Have a good night and rest your hamstring,

Hey everyone,

Well due to major cash flow issues, I had a 'forced' walk today of 1 mile back from going to town to deliver my car plates to my insurance agency. I'm going to miss driving my little corolla even if it's for a couple of weeks or less.

I know that my knees may be 'shot' but until they hurt like an SOB, I'll walk when I have to.

Swimming has been put on the back burner due to money issues and now car issues. But the forced walk home, while painful was probably something I should continue to do.

Meanwhile, I've been diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea and my doctor is seeing me on the 17th to follow up regarding my blood pressure. there's evidence to suggest that as soon as I'm able to adjust to a CPAP machine to help with my sleep apnea, I'll be able to have see results in lower blood sugars, and lower blood pressure, and hopefully I'll feel more rested too!

I hate all this 2 steps forward/1 step back thing but that's how it goes I guess.

Shadows thanks to trying to keep this thread going. I need it/and want it. I could use this kind of support as I spend a lot of my time alone. Now that I'm working almost more than full time and my brain is being exercised, more and more I need to balance it out with the physical. I know this I'm committed to it.

-Cheers

Good Evening PapaC,

I know about the issue with losing your car. I lost my car for nearly a year when it decided to stop running in the middle of an intersection on New Year's Eve. But the cop pushing me home with his car made up for it, he saw that I was upset and started telling me jokes on his loud speaker to make me laugh, which it did and had the whole neighborhood looking at us funny; they saw him pushing my Ford Escort with his blue lights on. I can never thank that officer enough for making me smile that night.

Hope everything gets better with you and soon!

Have a good night,

Zimmy

Hey there PC! Yanno dude, fate is a funny thing and while losing your car is a major inconvenience,it might be a chance to further getting more fit, because you have to walk now. Hopefully your knees will hold up and if you can, walk on the softest surface available!I think we are all feeling the belt tightening of a "recovering economy" we just hafta be more creative, right? I'm glad you are getting some inspiration from this thread,it is my honor to keep it going, and besides,I'm a motormouth when it comes to any kind of working out talk! Rock on dude and good luck with the sleep apnea thing! Now I gotta do HOMEWORK!! Is it Thursday (finals day) yet???? Thx for the congrats Zimmy and hope ya had a great walk! Later y'all! Shad

Week 2 Day 2
today's work out sucked... I wanted to take a day off but got a text message from a buddy saying that he would be there in 20 min... well that was my sign to get off my toosh and get to the gym... I was alot slower today but kept my 1.5 miles under 30 min.. but not by much... every jog I told him how much I was mad at him... which in hind sight means I can talk more while I am jogging with out huffing anf puffing.. (thats a good thing) so after the bitching on the tred mill I lifted and worked the upper body because the lower is just ouchy so that was all stretching...

Those of you who need a boost to get to the gym or out for a walk today.. this is your internet text message.. even 30 minutes of activity will make you feel better TRUST ME...

Me and my younger sister are both naturally skinny, and unfortunately [yes, i want to GAIN weight] everything I eat doesn't stink. I don't know where it goes. According to Marine Corps standards I am 4 pounds from being underweight. It is mandatory for us to workout as a unit 3 times a week. That's all I do. It keeps me toned and that's all I need. I don't want to work out on my own unless its some crazy workout that will give me a few pounds. I'm 5'8" and 128lbs.

[QUOTE=*euniique*;202607]Me and my younger sister are both naturally skinny, and unfortunately [yes, i want to GAIN weight] everything I eat doesn't stink. I'm 5'8" and 128lbs.[/QUOT

you gotta be kidding. It's cholesterol-heart attack city. One of my dearest friends is an Executive Chef in North Carolina. She told me that the Obits columns are full of people who died in their 40s because of the fats and cholesterol in southern cooking. I personally won't touch it except maybe once a year. And she refuses to serve it in her restaurant. She wont; even serve sweet tea. I have yet to taste sweet tea.
