Broken Glass Metropolis
I really enjoy poetry and free verse and thought perhaps starting a thread and throwing some of my old works in it will give me a nudge to write more often. I'll add more as I sift though.
I'll start with a favorite: ETA: (I wrote this one before using the screen name Metropolis... so in that, the use of the word metropolis is not in reference to myself) Broken Glass Metropolis City at night- City of light Offer up your riches and promise so sweet You lift them high up to the sky- Then throw broken bottles at my feet Hope smouldering in aged smoke stacks lighted silently by faint moon- The clouds scurry churning swiftly as stars come to see the city swoon- Its concrete arms reach threatening. City at night- City of light- Broken glass metropolis turn me inside out take me break me Lift me high above the night Make me whole again Whispering midnight winds come lay me down beside wet streets- To tell me of the sweetest dreams then throw broken bottles at my feet.

Oops, I intended to put more in here last night but was distracted, in any case... more of a free verse form I guess you call this one.
A Solitary Soul A solitary soul... dancing- illuminating the night. Clean and clear- glass ribbon- too easily- shattered and broken. Being of fleeting light... splintered cast cruelly into the dark. Once shimmering- dazzling glow- now dying flame. Fractured and mortal. Ghostly marionette... stumbling held fast to earthy plain. Tangled puppet- fitful and- lurching struggles- in its fleshy cage. Melancholy spirit... ablaze- semblance of liquid blue. Luminescent heart- the small faint soul- flees and flits- with the shifting wind. Cutting across the sky... unbound- severed bindings below- one freed at last- with the gentle- forgiving- rain of time. It struggles- no more.

Thanks Andrew...
The Spider and Her Mate What quiet game is this that you play silent and unseen? Feeling your lovers presence with your senses ever keen. Tapping your web slow and deliberate teasing him near waking his desire- In a crippling flash will he become a drifting ash in your funeral pyre? His instincts betray him with images of rain of sun of love and life- He dances for you to indicate his possibilities Entycing him deeper into your web deliberately hiding your intent quiet and poised drawing him unto you until his grappling passion spent- His dance long forgotten. Entangled in your silk you neither kill him nor set him free- Are you contemplating his unseen fate? A fermented meal to further sustain your hungry feel? Leaving him suspended just in case? Why is it that you do not make the bite that may softly wake or kill his now tired and sleeping body? Can you not set him free? Held by fear that he will flee never knowing your intent? Are you not full with the bruised and broken heart he lent? What secret is it that you keep? What thoughts of this you cannot speak? Is this love? Is this malice? Why do you lie in wait why do you not move or make your prey? He wants to know.
