I think I am going to have a salad with grilled veggies, corn on the cobb and either a pork chop or a turkey burger. I ate a caramel drizzled brownie to start *blushes*

While I am at it, I may throw on a couple of chicken breasts to have tomorrow. A pulled chicken sandwich with a salad and corn bread sounds like a great idea for lunch.

Dinner tonight will be some awesome leftovers from lunch.

I fried the fat from a chuck roast and then threw it away reserving the rendered oil to cook the beef cubes, diced onion, and sliced celery. The stew pot had carrots, potatoes, beef broth, some penne pasta, and then I added the frypan contents to it and left it boil until almost done, then added dumplings on top, turned the heat down and threw a lid on it for 15 minutes. It is the most awesome beef stew I have ever eaten I think and with the dumplings. Mmmm mmmmm.

Anyone care to join me?? *Smiles broadly.

A wonderful family BBQ - feta & tomato salad, potato salad, pork & beans, cucumbers, chick pea salad, roasted beets, naan bread (warmed on the grill) and, finally, some awesome grilled t-Bone steaks.
Add a dog sitting at my feet begging for scraps and a cat who was happy with the gristle, made for an enjoyable dinner for all.

Dishes will be washed, dried and put away before the hockey game begins.
Time for a gin & tonic. :)

Not heart healthy....

Ribeyes on the Weber charcoal grill (<---this last point is VERY important see ** below for elucidation.)

Rice---white, with butter, real.

Fresh spinach and garlic sauteed in a jot of EVOO. (Yum-O!)

Watermelon

Sweet Tea

**Searing is the process of browning the surfaces of meats, especially steaks. When done properly there are chemical reactions, the Maillard reaction and caramelization chief among them, that create savory compounds on the surface, and dry it a bit, to make a seductive crust. When it comes to steak, you want an even sear from edge to edge, no grill marks. All the tan meat in between the grill marks is undeveloped real estate. Grill marks are overrated, and in fact, undesirable on steak. Charcoal can reach a higher temperature than gas, thus creating the "seductive" crust that a nice piece of beef yearns for.

Novelafemme 05-21-2013 07:58 PM

I just made a very strange dinner.

The girls had 100% beef hotdogs with cheese inside (from Trader Joe's) and cottage cheese with fresh peas in it.

Not sure why that strikes me as weird...:)

And homemade blueberry scones for desert and breakfast in the morning.
