Three years ago today....

Three years ago today I had a tumour removed from my right lung. At the time I was told that the five-year survival rate for lung cancer was five percent. I was told that the tumour seemed intact (all 3.5cms of it) and that as a non-smoker the prognosis was very good (non-smokers tend to form less aggressive types of lung cancer).

So three years later here I am. I've learned a lot, I found the courage to reach out and connect with somebody, fell deeply in love and the future looks very bright indeed.

Just short of preaching, I want to encourage each and every one of you to do whatever you can to reduce your risk of cancer. We all know what to do and not do. This time of the year sunscreen is SO important. I know quitting the smokie treats is a hard one, but I've lost so many people......I can't help but have my own wish for you-all (including my own Sweetie). Cancer is responsible for ONE THIRD of all deaths. We can beat it!

This is my home, you are my family. I'm expecting to beat the five-year stats. I want all of you to be there too. My joy at my own good outcome is severely dampened by all those who have lost the battle. Please take care of yourselves.

Congrats to you on your three year anniversary!!!

We all need a reminder every now & then to take care of ourselves so thanks for reminding us!!! I watched my grandfather die from lung cancer when I was 14 and never picked up the smoking habit. As far as the sun, we have a love/hate relationship-I love it and it hates me. My skin is so pale that even a touch of unprotected time in the sun could leave me burned. Besides, I keep telling myself that my suncreen, sunglasses, etc are my way to fight "showing my age." I guess only time will tell-lol.

Again, happy anniversary. May you have many, many, many more to come!!!

What a blessing, Sue! I'm happy to hear your good news and, as a community member, am grateful for your fighting spirit.

I stand with you in the hope that we'll all do what we can to make our time here long and rich. After all, we bug the hell out of so many people...why not continue to stick it to 'em for years and years and years!!!!!!??!!!!
