I am passing along some very sad news. Well-known trans man, activist, speaker, my gender therapist and friend, Maxwell Anderson, is in the hospital for an inoperable brain mass (glioma). This is a very aggressive, rapidly growing tumor. Right now he and his family are trying to decide whether or not to pursue radiation which they have been told may shrink the tumor some but should only prolong Max's life for a short time.
If you don't know Max personally, you may know of him as Robert Eads' best friend as he was featured in the documentary, "Southern Comfort." I just spoke to Max on the 13th and he seemed good. (He'd had knee surgery in August and had recently returned to work) We made plans to have coffee next week. Last night I found that he collapsed at home on the 16th and was unable to get help until friends noticed he hadn't updated his facebook status and his phone was going to voicemail. This news has been been a shocking blow to his friends and to the trans community. If you would like to speak to Max or send a few words, the time is now. To send a card with your support, Max is in Neuro-ICU at Kennestone Hospital on Church St. in Marietta, GA. His room is in Green Tower… G-365. If you are in or near Atlanta and would like to visit, he can have 2 visitors at a time. However, no visitors are allowed during shift change (6:30-8:30am AND 6:30-8:30pm). This unit does not allow flowers. Cards go to: Maxwell Anderson c/o Kennestone Hospital 3 West ICU 677 Church St. Marietta, GA 30060 If you want to send or bring something for him, they are asking that you send a stuffed animal that can eventually be donated to Cobb County EMS or Sheriff’s Dept for kids who are involved in emergencies. It's been stated that Max loves stuffed animals and donated to this cause himself. He has been curled up with them in the hospital. If you would like to send some virtual support and/or prayers for Max, you can do that here as well as get updates on his condition: http://drmaxwellanderson.com/blog/2009/12/ Maxwell had been working on a project in pre-production called "Southern Comforted: Lives Touched by the Documentary". Please feel free to also use this space to share how either Max or Southern Comfort has touched your life. Let's honor him here. |
