I personally am happy that people don't ever seem to assume I am straight. I am a walking stereotype, lol, but it does suit me. I have been out with straight woman friends where people assumed we were a couple and also femme friends as well.
I think the hospital staff is trying to be considerate of a lesbian couple, even though you aren't one. Much better than kicking you out. But yes, it is interesting...
