London has Fallen
We enjoyed the action but it certainly is not Shakespeare. Premise is that terrorists unleash a series of attacks that leave the city of London fairly destroyed in their attempt to capture the president to punish him for a drone attack two years earlier. Starring Gerard Butler, and as President of the USA, Aaron Eckhart. Vice-president played by Morgan Freeman.

The Girl King, 2015, with Malin Buska
Based on the true story of Queen Christina of Sweden. She ruled during the 17th century when Protestants and Catholics were at war in Europe. She was an educated woman who was likely lesbian and possibly butch. She had a femme lover and was continually pressured to marry a man. It wasn't a great movie but I thoroughly enjoyed watching the story unfold. The acting wasn't bad but it was cheesy at times ![]() And it was really nice watching a woman outfox the domineering and patronizing men in her life. It's inspired me to read more about her. |

We were disappointed in this movie. It started out with some suspense but the ending was too out there.
Nuff' said, I don't want to give any spoilers: 10 Cloverfield Lane After getting in a car accident, a woman is held in a shelter by a doomsday prepper who claims the outside world is affected by a widespread chemical attack. Starring John Goodman.

The Good Girl with Jennifer Aniston, Jake Gyllenhaal, John C. Riley, Tim Blake Nelson.
It started off pretty decent. Nothing to write home about, but worth watching at home for an hour or two. I thought Aniston nailed the accent and was believable as a small-town girl who's smitten with a new employee at work. There was an ordinary pivoting point when the new employee robs the store. Everything was fine till the ending—the ending ruined the movie for me. I was left looking at the TV screen thinking WTF just happened? The acting was good, though it was a slow-moving story. And it had a jacked-up ending. |

Just got back from seeing this in the theatre--what a ride!
10 Cloverfield Lane After surviving a car accident, Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) wakes up to find herself in an underground bunker with two men. Howard (John Goodman) tells her that a massive chemical attack has rendered the air unbreathable, and their only hope of survival is to remain inside. Despite the comforts of home, Howard's controlling and menacing nature makes Michelle want to escape. After taking matters into her own hands, the young woman finally discovers the truth about the outside world. |

I saw two movies today. One in the theatre and one at home with Redbox.
Allegiant was cinematically gorgeous and the effects were on point. The storyline was okay. Maybe the last movie in the series will be better. It was good. Not great. The 33 had a lower budget and was cemented in reality as it's based on real life events and the people have real world problems. Their future is now and it's gritty and not pretty but it's real. I liked this movie. |

What did you think of American Sniper? Clearly, you enjoyed Furious 7 enough to watch it twice (or, if you didn't, you're a movie masochist) but how did you like AS?

The Big Short
Very well-done movie about sleazy banks and mortgage companies with the easy-to-qualify adjustable mortgage loans of the early 2000's and how it all blew up; causing so many people to wind up losing their homes.

I saw Hello, My Name is Doris yesterday and enjoyed it. Sally Field was great and it was quirky and touching.

I saw it yesterday and didn't enjoy it at all. Felt like a movie about an older woman written by a younger woman who had no clue of how an older woman thinks and behaves when she has a cruch on a younger person. I also wanted something more substantial on her hoarding problem (the quick recovery annoyed me more than anything). And her relationship with her bestie ... I could go on, but won't. ![]() I thought Fields was awesome in conveying her role, but that's the best I can say about the movie. Different strokes and all that jazz ![]() |

You're right and that's what makes the world go 'round.
![]() I saw Secret In Their Eyes tonight. It felt slow but I didn't see where any scenes could be cut and still tell the same story. It took me a minute to slide into the continuous flashbacks but the story itself was solid. It was good. Not my favorite but I am glad I saw it. |
