in my attempt to glean
your Radiance

to continue the "work" of art

you already are...

you, a woman who has walked
this Earth for
over sixty years
is thought to be
the other side

But in mine

we Know the Secret

that you hold in your
body

the knowledge
of all the pain
of loss

And the sensuality
of joy, love, pleasure,
and passion.

So, as I assist you off
of the model stand
and take you into
my arms

I know that you know
where we will go and
what ecstasy we will
move in rhythm to

And there is no regret
when I plunge into you

your body has the strength
of lifetimes, and the memory
of this thrusting you, and only
you could know what I feel

as I rise and plunge
deeper still you are not afraid
to look deeply into my eyes

gleaming with sweat
breathless at this travel

Studio Visit: New Model

A ring at the door, putting down my tool I go answer it.
The new model has arrived, I'm glad. Guiding her into
my studio, I show her where she can remove her clothes.
I've petitioned off a small part of my studio for
the models to have a space.

She follows me quietly. I go to another stand and prepare
for a new beginning.

The new model comes into the studio proper, nude, though
that is not how I "see" her; I see her as her most natural Self.
She waits for me to position the chair on the stand, it will be
a sitting pose.

I ask her name. "Elena.", she says.

Elena, sixty-five years old, Russian, and a writer.
Now in this country making ends meet by doing artist
modeling. I "see" her, and want to sculpt her pain, her
confidence, her sense of knowing that none of it matters,
and all of it matters.

Her "knowing" is etched on her face, her body. I don't ask of the pain.
I already know it. I ask about the days of sunshine, and joy in her
Russia, of her writing, how is it coming?

The sculpture takes a life of its own, with her energy, and mine.

Sometimes, many times, it's not about sex at all.
