How ironic you should post this! This is one of the idioms that the Unabomber used in his rantings /writings......."You can't eat your cake and have it, too," instead of the usual form, which is "You can't have your cake and eat it, too." The FBI profiler worked for ages on something called Forensic Linguistics to track and ultimately lead to the search warrant that brought him down!
