On my last visit to Chicago I noticed the following at the bottom of a menu at this establishment stating....."A 2% surcharge will be added to your total to help us provide health benefits to our team."

We enjoyed the food and the waitstaff were friendly & efficient but I'm not really sure how I feel about being forced to help a "for profit" establishment with their health care premiums!

The underground Chicago Walk is a tour through Chicago’s pedway, a little-known tunnel system in the heart of downtown Chicago. It may sound scary but fear not, the recently rehabbed tunnels are used by thousands of savvy locals every day. The pedway connects many of Chicago’s beloved landmarks, like Macy’s (Marshall Field’s), The Thompson Center, Block 37, The Daley Center, Millennium Park, City Hall and many more. Miles of new tunnels have been opened, with miles more in the works. Come explore the underground tunnels while sampling food at some of the unique restaurants, cafes and shops the pedway has to offer. You’ll sample artisan grilled cheese sandwiches, frozen kefir, traditional Thai cuisine, Garrett’s popcorn (a treat bag of their famous “Garrett’s Mix”), a wine tasting at Macy’s wine shop (Friday tours only) and a stop at Macy’s Candy Kitchen. The tour stops by the unexpected underground American Victorian stained glass art exhibit and ends in the Chicago Cultural Center, home to the world’s largest Tiffany dome glass ceiling. Give yourself some extra time after the tour — which is updated for winter to keep you inside and warm — to take in one or all of the Cultural Center’s free art exhibits.

Lips Drag Queen Show Palace, Restaurant & Bar 2229 S Michigan Ave Chicago

Lips touts itself as the “ultimate in drag dining.” Lips menu, courtesy of Tom J. Schmidt (Little Goat), emphasizes familiar favorites to sate diners as they take in a show. Smaller bites include the “Batty Davis,” (elote corn fritters with cilantro, lime zest, queso fresco, smoked chili crema) and the “Harlet Wench,” (battered calamari, garlic, Fresno aioli, basil dipping sauce). Entrees, deemed “the Ladies of Lips Couture Collection,” feature pasta dishes like the “Angel LeBare” (shrimp fettuccine alfredo), as well as beef and chicken dishes like the “Ryan Royale” (flat-iron chicken, kohlrabi slaw).

Lips drink menu highlights frozen drinks, cocktails, and specialty shots. These include the mini-chain’s signature drink, the “Yvonne Lame’” frozen cosmo, as well as a “Mimi Marks” frozen margarita, a selection of three flavored martinis, the strikingly named cocktail “Kick the Bitch to the Curb” (Cuervo gold, Cointreau, Chambord, sour mix, lime juice), among others. Shot options include the “Buttery Titty Twister” (butterscotch schnapps, Bailey’s, Southern Comfort) and the “Hot Chata” (Fireball, Rumchata).

I never returned to this establishment,Table, Donkey and Stick, but Dec issue of Chicago Magazine gave their Potato Latkes a rave review..

Bad Hunter's, Marisol, and Summer House Santa Monica are three offer these and worth a mention in Chicago Magazine's Dec issue.

After reading the ingredients in each, I have Marisol's, which is a hodgepodge of grains, beets, shiitake mushrooms, and cashews, on my list of new items to try on my next visit to the Windy City.

I did a quick check on Yelp, some get better marks than others, but I don't take Yelp's reviews as gospel...

After doing a bit or research and scanning the four websites, I'll put Shaw's Crab House on my list...

Caroling at Cloud Gate Millennium Park Dec 6 2019-Dec 20 2019

There's nothing stopping you from showing up in front of Cloud Gate (a.k.a. "The Bean") at any point during the year and belting out your favorite holiday songs, but you can do it with a crowd of like-minded exhibitionists at this annual series of winter concerts and sing-alongs. The caroling is lead by the likes of the Sounds Good! Choir, Mark Hubbard and The Voices (Dec 6), the Chicago Children’s Choir (Dec 13) and the Wicker Park Choral Singers (Dec 20).

It's free to attend and it's just a short walk to the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink if you want to go for a quick skate after you sing.
