"Drop Someone Like A Hot Potato"........

To suddenly stop being involved with someone, usually because you are having problems and/or because you do not like him/her/ any longer.

Sidebar: Drop here is used literally, but also in the figurative sense of end a social acquaintance with someone. A hot potato can be used independently as a metaphor for a controversial or awkward issue or problem that no one wants to deal with.

When a person says this to another they mean that they think the answer to whatever question they have asked is so obvious, that you can very easily guess and will be correct.
