If you've not heard our butch brother from up north read, come on out to hear Ivan Coyote at the event below. Rope--
Hammer and Nails in San Francisco September 16, 2010 - 08:00am Modern Times Bookstore 888 Valencia Street San Francisco, CA See map: Google Maps Hammer and Nails brings together Yukon storyteller Ivan Coyote and new Orleans comic Jessica Halem for a north/south butch/femme aural exploration of words and wit. Cost: $15.00 Jessica Halem is a Fool’s Fool. Called “Brave and Bawdy” by Time Out Chicago and “Righteous and Chipper” by the Times-Picayune, Jessica was raised by hippie Jewish artists from the East Coast which was anything but normal – or easy – in small-town Ohio, but did help to foster this very funny “on-your-face” comic who puts her queer spin on everything from Sudafed to Feminism to Glory Holes. www.jessicahalem.com Ivan Coyote was born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. An award-winning author of six collections of short stories, one novel, three CD’s, four short films and a renowned performer, Ivan’s first love is live storytelling, and over the last seventeen years she has become an audience favourite at music, poetry, spoken word and writer's festivals from Anchorage to Amsterdam. The Globe and Mail called Ivan "a natural-born storyteller" and Ottawa X Press said "Coyote is to CanLit what k.d. lang is to country music: a beautifully odd fixture." http://www.ivanecoyote.com/page/6/bio |

Shameless plug, my short documentary is included, Two-Spirits: Belonging Rope--
PACIFIC FILM ARCHIVE, UC Berkeley MONDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2010 - 7:45 pm ADMISSION: $5.50-$9.50 Cash or check only 2625 Durant Avenue #2250, Berkeley, CA 94720-2250 SHORT FILMS FROM THE QUEER WOMEN OF COLOR MEDIA ARTS PROJECT Website (QWOCMAP) promotes the creation, exhibition and distribution of new films/videos that address the vital social justice issues that concern queer women of color to build community through art and activism. Queer Women of Color Media Arts ProjectCON UNA LENGUA QUE NO ES MIA; a woman mourns the loss of language and legacy. The generations born after 1932 know that TO BE SALVADORIAN IS TO BE HALF-DEAD. Ascending prayer vibrates with the pitch of earth in RENACIMIENTO DE UNA BRUJA. SAGRADO echoes the balance and harmony found in nature. Encounters with European Christians change the measure of Two-Spirit ambassadors in TWO EMBRACE. Spiritual connections in TWO SPIRITS: BELONGING frames the Bay Area urban reservation. KILLING THE 7th GENERATION strikes a powerful lament against the history of forced sterilization. TRADITIONAL INDIGENOUS VALUES counter the dissonant frequencies of colonization and Prop 8. Added short; HARVEY MILK DAY by student Gunita Singh. Special Guests: Filmmakers Carrie House, Margareth Ramos, Zemaya Martinez, Ruth Villasenor, Rope Wolfe, and Melinda Micco, with Madeleine Lim from QWOCMAP. |
