Are boiled peanuts really just a southern thing?

i never know what is a cultural/regional thing and not enjoyed/available all over, usually.

The thread about "where i'm from..." is so interesting to me, cause i just usually think how things are here is the same as how it is all over the US. i mean, i've traveled a tiny bit and understand the differences a little, but i guess it's the little things that i never think about...

lol. They get softer than the raw ones yes, but not mushy soft. They are firm but NEVER crunchy (ew).
