I don't remember having any thoughts of what I wanted to be... I was mostly in my day as a kid. Then came high school and while others were planning their futures, I was experimenting with drugs(early seventies).
A year after high school, I went to a community college where I earned an Associate Degree in Mental Health/Social Service; and never pursued the field further. Moved a lot after that, working all kinds of jobs; and although I always took courses at the nearest college, I never stayed anywhere long enough to obtain a degree. At the age of 25 I realized I needed a REAL job. I still didn't have any idea of what I wanted to be... I knew what I didn't want. I didn't want to be behind a desk all day and I didn't want to be in one place all the time. Back to school I went - became a Respiratory Therapist because the description in the college catalogue said I'd get to work with people and machines, and "moving around" was implied. It's now 30 years later and I consider myself very lucky... I still like what I do, am always learning something new, and if you need me, page me - I could be anywhere. |
