I absolutely adore Vargas! In my teen years I would daydream about being a Vargas Girl. My progressive mother recognized that my oldest brother would be interested in Playboy, etc., so she let him know which magazines were welcome in her house. Everyone read them - sometimes Mom and I would discuss articles, etc.

In his novel "The Stepford Wives," Ira Levin included a character, Ike Mazzard, based on Vargas. He would draw portraits of the women before they were "Stepfordized" and then the new, improved version was an "Ike Mazzard girl."

Lee Roberson - he is an artist in the Smoky Mountains. I have quite a few of his works hanging in my house, even a few unframed ones as well. His work speaks to me as I'm a great fan of the Smokies and a lil town called Townsend, TN. It's a great refuge for me and his paintings are typical of the area landscape. I have the one below hanging over my bed.

I also an a fan of Jim Booth. He's a Charleston, SC artist. I have several pieces of his work as well hanging in my house. One of my favorites is the one of the old Cooper River Bridges in Charleston, SC before their demolition.

Absolutely beautiful! I love the bridges too - the images have a haunting feeling to them as they vanish into the misty horizon.

I have a guestion for art lovers here especially the lovers of Impressionist artists. I remember the teacher in art class showing us a painting that I just loved. And I have been looking for it for years on the internet. I believe it was either an Italian or a Spanard that painted it.

It shows a scene with St. Francis of Assis; a very detailed painting of him with animals. One can almost see the individual eyelashes on the subjects that is how detailed it is. I thought it was El Greco or Velaquez but have not see anything like that in their works.

Anyone have any idea?

From the description you provide it sounds like an Italian Renaissance painting, rather an Impressionist. But that is just a guess.

One of my favourites of Francis is Caravaggio's 'St. Francis in Ecstasy'
