QUEER WOMEN OF COLOR MEDIA ARTS PROJECT
presents A FREE VIDEO WORKSHOP - Spring 2011 for Queer Youth (18 to 25 yrs) of Color This workshop is offered to LBTQGNC Youth of Color (18 to 25 yrs): -- Queer, Lesbian, Bisexual, Same-Gender-Loving, Two-Spirit, Transgender, or Questioning young women, Genderqueer or Gender Non-conforming youth of color (18 to 25 years) who are -- African Descent/Black, Asian/South Asian/ South West Asian/North African, Pacific Islander, Chicana/Latina, Native American & Mixed-race WORKSHOP DAY: Mondays, 6:30pm to 9:30pm BEGINS: 24 January, 2011 ENDS: 9 May, 2011 DURATION: 16 weeks REGISTRATION DEADLINE: 5pm, Friday, 7 January, 2011 PLEASE NOTE - Registration is first-come first-served basis. - If accepted, you must be able to attend ALL 16 classes. - Confirmation of your registration will be EMAILED to you on Wednesday, 12 January, 2011. - Class size is limited to 10 participants. - Workshop participants will receive a stipend at the end of the workshop process upon completion of video project. - Our QWOCMAP office is closed until Monday 10 January 2011 for winter break. You will be notified of your acceptance to this class by Wednesday, 12 January 2011. As many people wish to attend our Training Program, it is important that you can attend all 16 classes. If accepted, you must be available for a 15-minute phone meeting/interview before the workshop begins. Have you attended past QWOCMAP screenings? When? 13. List any previous film/video production experience. 14. Describe a challenging project that you completed, that required time, dedication and patience. (e.g. training a dog, remodeling/building something, planning a wedding/conference/family reunion). 15. IMPORTANT: You must submit an idea for your project. Describe your idea for the 5-MINUTE video project that you will be creating through this workshop. 16. Want to rock your skills to create social justice? Want to develop your leadership as an artist-activist? Through this intensive, fun and transformative 16-week Introductory Workshop, you will learn the technical, artistic and leadership skills to create your own film. Each participant will create, write, direct and edit a 5-minute video project. You will develop a story idea, write a script, draw storyboards, create shot lists, operate cameras and compose shots, set-up lights & sound, direct actors and manage crew, edit, and send your film to film festivals and beyond. Access to mini-DV cameras starting the 2nd week and Mac computers throughout the entire duration of the workshop is extremely helpful though it is not a requirement. FILMMAKER TRAINING PROGRAM We demystify filmmaking through hands-on exercises and skill development to cover everything from ideas and screenwriting to cinematography, directing actors and editing. MISSION Queer Women of Color Media Arts Project (QWOCMAP) creates, exhibits and distributes new films that address the vital social justice issues that concern our multiple communities. Our vision nurtures queer women of color filmmakers as artist-activist leaders to create systemic change through art, activism and community building.
