Our New Year was really quiet, Gail, and also really COLD. I am gonna start that hat this week, I think. I have green wool that I can just repurpose. The plan right now is to make a closely crocheted very warm hat that covers my ears without blocking my line of sight; so far I haven't been able to find a hat that covers my ears without also drooping down over my eyes so I guess it's time for some custom work!

Hahaha. I crochet, and in fact, almost always have a ball of yarn and a project in my purse. I find it extremely meditative and soothing.

I sew, too, and have been doing hand embroidery for more than twenty years; Mama taught me when I was a wee thing. For a while, I was quite fancy with it... I did Elizabethan blackwork for period costumes, custom work on heirlooms and wedding dresses and things, all just via word of mouth. I simply don't have that kind of time to dedicate to it anymore, but I still love it. Embroidery to me is like painting with thread.

Right now, I have two crochet projects going, both scarves, and a laptop sleeve I am embroidering for a friend... the laptop sleeve is really neat, it was made by a fair trade organization that employs and empowers women and girls in Uganda. It's printed with a design that she asked me to sew over, and gave me full creative license as far as stitches, colors, etc... Fun!

Tonight or tomorrow I'll start the 2nd sock of a pair I'm making for a friend - they were supposed to be a Christmas present.

Then there are a couple of projects that I want to get started.

Now working on a birthday scarf for Syr, only Her bday was days ago

Also have a blanket on the go somewhere around here.. will be a while to complete.. doing granny squares.

You can make a Peruvian style hat by adding ear-flaps, it is really easy to do without pattern, particularly in crochet!

would love to crochet but no car to get supplies it has to go to the shop well dealer to get looked at

so sad..

Oh thanks but it needs a new transmission at 3 years old too but under warranty so all is good I will get that crochet hook as soon as I can..
