I confess that I am bewildered and hurt that my 16 yr old Newly Recruted Republican posted something hurtful and rude about my political stance on FB. When I sent him a private message he justified it by saying he had a right to do that considering in a little more than a year he will be able to vote. Then he Unfriended me. Just like his father did four months ago for the same reason.
I confess that a few other family members (also Republicans) feel that they also have a right to post on my wall telling me and my friends what to think, what do do and how to feel. I confess I have never done that ever. I rarely talk politics at family gatherings either as I feel it is inappropriate and can cause problems. I confess life is difficult for a progressive, fiscally conservative Democrat living in a Red State with a mostly hardcore Republican family. I confess sometimes I give serious thought to divorcing the entire lot of them. They do not participate in my life much anymore. Coming out was the start of this long nightmare. I do confess this has saddened me while at the same time hardened my resolved to not let anyone tell me to shut up.
