The not-so-lovely maiden had been bound for so long she could remember much before becoming so. They had taken her in the night, never explaining what it was they wanted with her. She was not wealthy. She was not beautiful. She did not possess any great skill or talent. Her only real claim to fame was her ability to summon the insect world to do her bidding.

Okay, so it was not the greatest of gifts, but given her lack of anything else remarkable, it was a welcome gift. Thus far, she had not called upon her special gift to help get her out of this jam. She didn't know why exactly. She figured more than likely she had hopes that her kidnapping would be some sort of adventure. However, she found it just plain ole' boring as her kidnappers did not seem to want her for anything. So she was just sorta there, with nothing to do, no excitement, still a virgin, and bored.

She tried to remember if she had anything pressing for which to get home. She recalled she did have a dentist appointment and not wanting to be charged the penalty for missing the appointment, she decided it was time to get herself free and back to a life just slightly less boring than her current situation.

She had previously only used her gift to rain down upon those who would belittle or bully her. It had not always worked out well as once she called forth a swarm of butterflies when she meant to call forth a swarm of bees. The victim of her anger had not only not been scared, she had gone on to write a story about it and made a ton of money. Not really the retribution she was seeking. She would have tried again, but once the gift was used, it had a reset time of seven days.

She had worked on her skills a bit and found she was now 60% accurate. Okay, not the best of odds, but much better than before she had started practicing. So, she mustered all her energy and sent forth a call to her insect minions. She trilled her voice in just the right way to call forth a battalion of beetles. The beetles would chew the ropes and have her free in no time. She sent forth the call once more, and as using her skills fatigued her so, she fell fast asleep.

When she woke, she looked to the post that held the freeing end of her bindings. Imagine her dismay when she discovered she had not been successful in summoning her beetles. Ladybugs!!! What were Ladybugs going to do? Oh well, at least they were pretty.
