I tasted it once. I am not a big fan of Malt Liquors. It gets a horrible review at

The other night I bought a couple of bottles of Hoegaarden wit blanche - a wheat beer and not a garden of hoes with some funny blondes

It was ok. Too sweet? Not sure how to describe the taste. I chose it quite randomly - felt like a change from the standard Tiger.

I don't drink alcoholic beverages at all, but I have, in the distant past, drank an O'Doul's (non alcoholic beer).

It's been about 15 years or so since I've even had that, though, come to think of it.

I was watching True Blood and noticed that Alcide's father was drinking Schlitz. I am sure the point is that he is drinking an inexpensive brew. Honest go god, if you are going cheap, you could do worse. It tastes like beer for one thing, unlike Miller and Corona. Better than PBR and Bud. Eww, Bud. Anyway, just noticed that.

What was your first beer that wasn't swill?

Mine was Moosehead. I drank it for several years. It is fine. I would drink one now if offered one. I wouldn't go out and buy it. But it's not bad. Certainly better than the standard lagers out there.

First I would like to thank you for using the word swill! I have not seen this word in years :-)

I would have to say my first beer that wasn't swill :-) was "Fosters". It was only available in a oil can as we called it. We thought we were cool at parties hanging out with this huge can of beer. It was also the first 6 point beer I ever had.

Aw, the memories.

My first swill free beer was a Molson Golden.

A friend of mine worked at a local grocery here and gave me a six pack. I drank it on the beach.

The hoppy nature of the IPA does not override the presence of citrus and floral flavors. It is not sweet but still has a hint of malt in the end even with the strong ass hoppy finish. I have 5 left and plan on enjoying them over the next few weeks.

I also picked up a 22oz. bomber from left hand brewing out of Colorado.I have never been a fan of Colorado beers or breweries really until I tried Wake Up Dead imperial stout. I know it is aged for a few months so it has a spicy start with a coffee/chocolate velvety smooth end. I think the hops may be roasted or toasted because it has an undertone of burnt earthiness. I guess it could also be from the aging. Ohhhhh yeah...it has almost 11% ABV.

11% ABV? Perhaps I will have "just one".

Love the write up, Grant. Wake up Dead sounds like something right up my alley. You and Martina do well with this. Thank you!

Somehow I did not aquire a knowledge of beer that is anything close to my palette for excellent wines and kona coffee.

Blue Moon is my go to beer for something to have in the fridge for guests, my brother and times when I want beer without having to think too hard..

My all time favortie beer is from Kona Brewing Company (convientiently located a mere 20 minutes from my home on the island...) and it's called Wailua Wheat.. It's lovely, light and you really can taste and smell the beautiful liliqoi in it. Drinking heavier beers under the Hawaiian sun just doesn't do it for me.

There is a place in San Francisco I've been meaning to go to with my brother that has somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 beers. Rumors could be exagerated, but even if it's half that I'm so down..

Happy brewing and tasting!
Glad you are joining us!

tantalizingfemme used to love this beer. I don't like wheat beers with tastes of citrus. She would add an orange to it and loved it.

As an affected college student, I went through a Lowenbrau phase. Now I'm just a beer fag. Give me a Rolling Rock, Corona, maybe a Miller High Life (glass bottles only please, on all of them). I guess I'm really much more of a wine or tequila guy.

I don't think I've tried that Blue Moon. I don't like wits, so probably I haven't. But I looked it up, and some Beer Advocate folks say it's the best Blue Moon (and therefore Coors) has to offer. I am surprised. It's hard to make a wit that can compare to a lot of other styles. By nature they're not that flavorful. Anyway, I thought that was interesting.

It sure sounds like a good drink for a summer day in Texas.

I am going to try to get to Lagunitas Brewing Co's taproom this weekend. It's in Petaluma, Ca. They have a couple of Imperial Stouts on tap right now. Funny that their tasters are more expensive than Russian River's. *frown*

I have not gotten to Lagunitis yet. But I arrived up here at this peaceful lovely summer vacation rental (only a few weeks yet, and only weekends for me cause I am working now) and found some Anchor Steam Beers I had left in the fridge.

For me they are like the everyday easy drinker -- affordable, good, not so complex you feel you have to sit down and write about it. Good stuff. Nice to arrive here and have a couple cold in the fridge.

Now what to do for food.

I liked the regular Genesee beer when I was up in NY, also the Labatts Ice better than the Labatts Blue. You cooking the beer chicken on the grill or oven?
