Status update!

~>> feels quiet today, but that's mostly because I spoke with my youngest brother by phone earlier.... which our conversation took me back to 1997 when I was waiting for him at the Union Pacific train station downtown and he was coming 'home' to stay with me for awhile... The train station newspapers where plastered with the tragic accident that Princess Diana died in... I saved the New York Times from the day. It's funny how a song or a major event connected with someone you love with all your heart will come back to you, as if it happened yesterday.

Soon to be seen flying through a dark night in the wilds of north-east England, one really bloody annoying mouse ... May lead to less cursing coming from a nearby home.
I foresee a trip to a computer store very soon!

<<~ It's quiet at my house tonight: Eddie's gone for the moment to his union class; I'm working on preparations for meetings tomorrow and listening to a playlist of songs by David Gray.... I find him soothing to listen to, when I have a lot on my mind late at night.

Last night I slept better than I have in a while.


I got up n fed the kittehs, Crows, squirrels, Bluejays, doves, and
every other winter resident species that will hang out here for refuge.
I pondered how things would be if I could do the same for people, if
we could all do the same for our fellow peoples. Then I made garlic
sourdough toast n sat down with the Mrs who did't see the President's
speech cuz she crashed when they declared him...and I had recorded it.
As I sat n watched the extra half hour I had recorded past his speech,
on the screen the RED spots on the US map were blinding.



See, but then I had to remind myself...not everyone in those
States are 'red'. So many ill feelings can flush through
someone and permanent impressions can be made
about things if they are shown images in just
red and blue, black and white...

Remind yourselves that this Country is more than Red or Blue,
in those numbers are folks like me n you.

I have come out of hiding. I am back at the home base for few days break from Mama. I am ready for Winter Storm Athena and gonna have a few drinks with my best gay boyfriend. Maybe we will go get some Thai curry, too.

My day was as beautiful as could be:
I spent my time here, read posts quietly, found beautiful
pictures to share and spent time cooking in my kitchen and
waited for my son to come home, tonight.

He's home now, so it's time for me go...

<<~ I'm making a delicious soup tonight for supper: a Potato Ginger soup.

I carmelize some sweet onions, celery and finely chopped portions of ginger root first; then I add potatos (baby reds) that I have cut in half and let them braize a bit in the carmelized mixture.... then I add about a quart or two of water and let the potatos cook until they are tender; which by that time, I make a roux of milk, heavy cream and rice flour (I shake it up in a glass jar so it's smooth and creamy) and add it to the soup base. I season the soup with bit of sea salt, cracked pepper and a bit of garlic powder and let it simmer into a very thick soup.

I'm also baking some bread rolls (oversized) to go with our soup for supper tonight (garlic & rosemary with shredded mozarella cheeze). I always like how bread and soup makes the house smell so warm and comfy.
