Default a suggestion for/about 'trolls'

Dear Admin,

Do you remember a certain time when a certain someone was wrecking havoc and being diligent virgos some preliminary research was done to understand the nature and behaviour of internet trolls/forum trolls/ the concept of trolling in general?

Might I kindly suggest that this be something that is included in your operating procedure and guidelines on how to handle trolls... at a) an administrative level b) as a moderator level and c) as a community/membership level.

Thanks

Well, then I'll get one too!

I WISH I had this much wood split right now. I am SO far behind. This is not YOUR STACK is it Jack?! I know you cut some trees down. Are you two burning wood for the winter? It's a lot of work, but SO WORTH it!! Very cozy!!

Must do wood tomorrow!

But no its not my stack, I spend hours surfing the internet looking at other peoples wood stacks.

Oh yeah

We have been having fires for the last month, its getting cold here.

I guess we need a wood, ax, stack'em thread.
__

Yeah, we do. I really needed the support this year! I should be burning now too. Chimney has been cleaned, but not the stove pipe yet!

I used to hand split. I do have a splitter now though, but you need two thumbs (the safety feature) and then the wood turner person - for speed and better efficiency, and less bending, etc... I loved that darn splitter you posted a photo of awhile back. (The Bobcat looking one!) I laughed, but watched the whole video, with ENVY!

I have to finish up this tri-axle load before the wood gets punky on me. It has been so damned wet here the past couple of years.

OK, end of DERAIL!

REALLY!

Ummmm, technical question. If we are answering a PM and we see all of their editor tags upon replying, (which is a tad confusing for me reading my way through that to respond), how do we clear that? I recall Linus mentioning something about "removing editor tags" when discovering WHY my music links didn't intially post. Can we do that, or is that just a technician thing to have access to?

PLUS, do we have unlimited time to edit our posts once posted?! I really like that, as I read and read and just find more and more mistakes!! (Plus, it's not giving an edit time, which I really like. Unless I choose to admit my damn mistakes!)

THERE, back on track here! Rollin' now!

OK, third question. Other than a photo as a person's avatar, when we can then open a profile... where do we see if there is a photo of anyone there? (Like their gallary shots.) I can't seem to locate the place for that.

And will we keep the main posting profile just as it is. As in no info. on the post page about us? (One has to open up a profile to see where one is from and all, right? I don't mind it, it has it's advantages actually...) Just curious. Kind of nice not having the "label" thing right there - for a change of pace.

P.S. *I'll send ya a photo if I can get a nice looking pile/stack going here! Perhaps this can be the motivator I have been looking for!!

ETA: Wait, I'll go and read more on the FAQ! (Now that I know what that means! LOLOL!!) So, never mind, I'm sure I can DO THIS!! Unless there is something I'm asking that may NOT be there for the answer... (?)

You can do this by hitting the double As on the right in your editor (the ones on the left removes formatting altogether while the ones on the right shows the BB tags.

The gallery can be found here: http://www.butchfemmeplanet.com/gallery/ and is still being worked on. The main part is a little out of whack but the pictures are there.

Dusa,

I have a request. You have a wonderful Wolf smilie, and a cute kitty, but can you perhaps find a tiger? I can even deal with it if it's not white.

Pretty please, with sugar on top?

Default deleting of accounts and other admin suggestions...

Ok, for the record.... I just want to be crystal clear here, because it must be said:

I was never comfortable being 'crowned' a Tech Guru (speaking only for myself, not Mr. Linus). I went along with all that hype to *cough* be polite... (besides kinda hard to be be a guru with both hands tied behind ones back)

I'd like to bring up another subject that yes I'll admit has been prompted by a discussion on another vbulletin site, and that's the matter of deleting accounts, or when it's requested to do so.

Admin please see this only as a suggestion, the last thing I want to come across as is patronizing. But I'm very ... perturbed.

A user felt no recourse but to ask for their account to be deleted in a public thread. Now, I'm not an idiot it seems to be the *opposite* of what one should do if they don't want to use their account. I also get that deleting accounts and threads and posts and things can cause corruption of data in databases (check). (never mind that there's optimized tools for that and 'techy' things aren't 100% such is life)

So here's my suggestion for here just is would work *elsewhere*. Putting a username into a usergroup where the username doesn't show up in the membership list is hella easy. (just ask June as she's dancing in the "Coppa"cabana) That's step one. Step two: deleting posts... not something you might choose to do but if you feel this person is genuinely concerned for their safety, there is something called the "soft delete" making all posts invisible for public consumption.

Sorry if I I'm sounding frustrated folks but I think as *this* site grows issues like this will crop up. And with a lot of things, there usually are exceptions to 'rules'.

just ask June... as she's still dancing at the 'Coppa'cabana.

(with plenty of snarky goodness in the direction of the snark queen).

Admin - what say ye? feel free to discuss this more in private.
To the rest, my apologies if this post is laced with a few not-so private jokes.

I think these are all great suggestions!

I also saw a user over there asking for their name to be deleted for privacy concerns - would it also be an option if that ever happened over here to change the persons user name to something innocuous like "bbbb" or "nolongerinuse1"?

thoughts?

  • Hinduism & Tibetan Buddhism. A personal spiritual teacher. (PapaC, you are definitely a teacher.)
    1. A teacher and guide in spiritual and philosophical matters.
    2. A trusted counselor and adviser; a mentor.(PapaC, you are definitely someone I would go to for advice and counsel on tech things..)
    1. A recognized leader in a field: the guru of high finance.(PapaC, you are definitely recognized.)
    2. An acknowledged and influential advocate, as of a movement or idea: "In a culture that worships slimness, he was the Guru of Lean" (Erica Abeel).(PapaC, you are definitely influential.)

So, sorry sugar, seems you do qualify as a guru.
