I'll admit it. I am an avid crochet freak. My grandmother taught me when I was 9 and I have never given it up. I am crocheting a blanket for Red as we speak. I use to love to work with the fine threads and make table runners and such but my eyes are to bad to see that well anymore.

I went through a knitting phase and I've gone upstate for the Sheep & Wool Festival at the Rhinebeck Fairgrounds too many times to count.
You see people knitting on the subway all the time, in winter. I feel calmer, watching them. It's like the fish tank in the doctor's office. My grandmother crocheted and so did my sister who passed away. I don't know what happened to the bodark crochet needle my grandfather made. I think my mom has it. Next reunion, there should be a crafts share! |

I want to learn to do picot edge but i think i'm going to have to get lost on youtube for a while too! I've been considering getting a group of friends together on weekends to make soup and craft during the cold months. I think it's time to start planning that!

I'm here!!!!
I found some great video's on youtube. Still figuring it all out. I found 3 different ways to just make a slip knot. Also about six on how to cast on and how to make the first knit stitches. I have found the ones that are easiest for me and have been practicing!!! I make about 10 cast ones then 10 knit stitches then i look at it and laugh. Spacing is off, some are loose, some are tight. But. I'm practicing. I am gonna just keep doing these two things and get them down good, before i move on. Of course today being Thanksgiving i've had no time to practice and now i work the next three days. But, I'll get there!!!!!!!!

i do not knit, so i am of no help.
BUT in crocheting, you do not want to work *tight* or you end up with an uneven piece, because eventually you have to loosen it up. That should SO go in the overheard thread. ![]() |

I am getting the hang of crocheting. As I posted earlier, I taught myself to knit several years ago, and I enjoy it VERY much! When I first started teaching myself to crochet, I gotta confess, I wasn't all that thrilled...I liked knitting better. But now, as I am getting more familiar with working the yarn and hook, and learning the stitches...I find I'm enjoying myself! I have a bunch of patterns for little animals and I can't wait to give them a try!

Having said that: you do have to be consistent realize that if you make a sock, hat, sweater, or mittens that gauge matters and being a loose knitter or a tight knitter will throw your gauge off and your piece will be to small or to big. on toys, shawls, scarfs, gauge doesn't matter. gauge all pattern either list gauge or tell you it doesn't matter. If it matters: it will say that you should do a gauge swatch. If it says that 20 stitches x 20 rows should equal a 4x4 swatch and you do it and your 20 stitches x 20 rows makes a 3x3 swatch then what you are knitting will be to small. If your 20 stitches x 20 rows is 5x5 then what you are knitting will be way to big. when you are happy and relaxed you will probably knit looser and when you are tense and upset you will probably knit tighter. you will find dozens of you tubes for every stitch there is there are dozens of cast on's and cast off's use the one listed in the pattern if they tell you something specific do your favorite if they don't tell you which one to use. My favorite is the long tail cast on

I can crochet a really long scarf and that's it...I use to know more, but I've forgotten. I have no idea how to knit. I plan on learning more, because I found that crocheting is a really good stress reliever and it's so nice to hand make make something beautiful for someone special.

This is my favorite passion.
Tunisian crochet. It makes the most beautiful scarfs The needle looks like a crochet needle with a stopper on the end..you actually cast on then *unload* to make a row. The needle looks like this. ![]() And the scarfs look like this. ![]() and i learned how to do this type of work, on youtube! |
