Default I'm too old for it now, but I remember when ...

(Jeeez, I feel like I should be in a rocker with a blanket over my lap)

I had just moved to Seattle
I was 20.
The City was huge
and I could get lost in bars
and women
and
cruising
and dancing the night away
and eating after hours
and watching the
sunrise
...

That was thirty years ago

I cant imagine doing that now...
its so far past my bedtime
when things are just
heating up.

Wow! Flashback!

What about the old Eastlake East? or is that what became the Offramp?
Crescent Tavern

The 4am breakfasts at 13 coins after the Sanctuary
Trying to remember what the Wildrose was before, I think something like the Sundance maybe

Yeah, didn't go out until 11
Now bedtime is before 10

Oh no, it was breakfast at the doghouse for us. Went to 13 coins a few times, but the doghouse the best! (the coffee and french fries diet) I lived in an apt bldg full of young drag queens at that time (when the hill was the gayborhood and a poor, youngster could afford to live on the hill) ..the wonderful memories and the wildrose was still a coffee shop with great veggie burgers.

Default Y'all got me to thinkin'...

...about 25yrs ago and dancing like a loon all night long on a podium in what was then 'Pink Flamingo' gay club. I think nearly every northern UK queer has been to Flamingoes at least once in their lives.

Oh the good times rolled. It wasn't a good Saturday night unless:
  • I'd superglued red horns on Gary The Evil Queen's head.
  • Salome had chased me round the flat with one of her many wigs.
  • Snorted and dropped whatever.
  • Got lost on the spiral staircase.
  • Some straight guys had been 'chucked out' of the club for being stoopid boys looking for trouble.
  • Seen at least 2 lesbian fights; check shirts (or shiny shirts which was the fash. for a wee while there) flying and girlfriends shouting "she's not wurf it Shaz, leave 'er!"
  • I 'pulled' an outta town girl.

What a classy lot we weren't

So, yeah, feel 'too old' to do that now.

Default Too Old

I'm too old to go clubing, but not too old to dance the night away
I'm too old to drink so much that the room starts to spin, but not too old to share a glass of good wine with a friend.
I feel too old to try and complete with these young chickabiddies, but I'm not too old to hold my own, even at 58
I'm too old to date a thirty year old, but I have no problem of entertaining the thought of being escorted by a handsome butch of 45.
I'm too old to think that I can't make a difference in life - I still have lots of love left in my heart to give.

As per my hairdresser, I am too old to have a streak of a crazy color in my hair. I asked for that, and she said very directly, with no smile and awkwardness or harshness, "No, that's for younger people." It didn't upset me. I found it funny (maybe the way she stated it like a certain fact, like the sky being blue) and reflected that my job might have an issue with it. I like to let hairdressers do what they wish with me anyway

I just got my hair cut. It was really long. (it's still long by most people's standards.) I've put myself through this several times before. I think that a guy having long hair is _________ fill in the blank with what ever negative rationale you can think of. The latest thing is the age thing. So I went to
a friend that is a stylist and she cut my hair. She did a really good job. And even though I tried to psych myself up for this, pre-grief and all, I'm kinda sad that I did it. After I had it cut I saw several men older than me with long hair, including one guy with white hair.

So I'm sad that I bought into the whole 'you're too old for this' crap.... :-(

I agree, and fuck that stylist who said you're too old for crazy color streaks!

My friend Bertha, who's reading today in our series, is in her sixties, runs a well known small press and literary center, is a respected Beowulf scholar and poet in her own right—and has spiky blue hair.

lots of things... but the first that came to mind is that I feel I'm too old to be playing around (eg. with other people's feelings...) not that it's ever ok to do that, just feel I don't have the time and energy for games anymore and when I meet people that think otherwise, I calmly walk away...

It doesn't always have to be a mean game-playing, it might as well be a part of flirting/chase me/so many want me-you should try to compete and win me etc. etc. etc. For some people it's part of dating and that's fine. I just feel I prefer a bit more straight forward communication...

You should have told her you're too old to put up with hairdressers that don't do what you ask them to do.

Apparently, I am too old to do whatever it was that inflamed my archilles tendon overnight.

I am also too old to remember what that might have been.

I'm too old to avoid pursuing something that I really want, especially if the only reason to avoid pursuit is that society regards me as being "too old to be doing that"!
