Someone mentioned honing their casting skills. When the kiddies were coming along and started wanting to go fishing with me I'd buy them a rod and reel show them how to use it and put an old tire in the yard and tell them when you can hit the tire every time you cast THEN you can go fishing.
I have little patience for getting hung up in trees and brush. However I do have some funny fishing stories with the kiddies. Anyway I guess what I'm saying is whoever was wanting to hone their casting skills should get a old tire and start casting casting casting. |

Blade I think this is a great idea for anyone unsure of their casting skills. I like you have little patience when someone gets hung up in anything and I have to stop what I'm doing to help. The easiest thing to do is cut the line, reset and don't bother the others your fishing with. You can always go back later and tug away, if you lost a good lure.

Good idea Blade! Also good practise if you use a baitcaster so as to avoid birdnesting while on the water and basic embarrassment in front of pals lol
I try not to get upset when myself or someone with me hangs up. Often the best spots to cast to are under that tree limb or next to that fall down. Fishing is the same as realestate - it's all about the location location location! I bought some lure retrievers which are basically a piece of lead with a paperclip attached to it. You thread the paperclip around your line then just let the lead fall, the weight of the lead hit the lure, hopefully dislodging it. It saves tons of time and actually works!!! You can buy them at walmart. One last tip, my favorite lures are rapalas. Go to www.rapala.com and they have video tips for their lures to best utilize them. I learned alot!!! The videos are about 15 minutes long and have no commercials cause, really, the whole video is a commercial. But the information is really good. They also have a tshirt I HAVE to buy!! It shows a rapala lure and it say - take a fish boating! lmao!!!!!!! I think I'll put that as my sig line ![]() ~~~shark~~~~~~~

Does anyone have Ollies close? I was there the other day and picked up some nice lures. They also had nice rods and reels for 20 bucks. A lot of nice stuff cheap and if it gets caught or breaks you're not out a bunch of money.

Good to see there are others that enjoy fishing. I have to say that I enjoy the outdoors, fresh air, beautiful scenery but it's the only time that my brain is not going 100 miles an hour. I'm just focused on that one moment... I live in NW Ark and fish rivers, lakes from a boat. Trout fishing in one river, small mouth in another.. Mostly bass/striper fishing in the lakes.

yesterday as i was cleaning out my sister's garage, I discovered my dad's old fishing pole and his tackle box. She said I could have it. I plan on doing some fishing this year...and to have him with me? Wow...
just a little story about dad and fishing. He and my mom and my big sister and brother who were babies then, were on the blanket while my dad fishes. He said he was going to the car to get some beer. My mom didnt want him to but he gave her the pole and said for her to fish. She didnt have a license and tried it from that angle. He said no one would be around and she would be ok. So he goes to the car for beer. When he comes back, there is the guy giving my mother a ticket...for fishing without a license... boy was my daddy in trouble for not just the beer!!!

Excellent... My cousin and I fish a lot together but I could seat 1-2 more people in the boat some time. Let me know. We fish the white river mostly for trout. We use lures called "little red river lures" and they work awesome. I just moved here last year, so I'm still getting to know the lakes.
