The Rover with Guy Pearce
The Rover is a 2014 Australian drama film written and directed by David Michôd and based on a story by Michôd and Joel Edgerton. It is a contemporary western taking place in the Australian outback, ten years after a global economic collapse(Wikipedia) My GF and I felt that it was very slow in parts. It did remind me of a modern-day Mad Max.

Today was a busy movie day!
I saw and was, again, pleasantly surprised. Jason Bateman is in this one too and I'd forgotten that. He's turned into quite the talented actor through the years. He does emotionally vacant especially well. and then I saw Apparently, it does not hold with the book but that's fine as I did not read the book. I was a bit annoyed at the ending but I won't spoil anything for anyone. I also wound up raiding a Redbox and watching this and I enjoyed it quite a bit. For a movie about football, it was pretty cerebral. The only thing I didn't feel was copacetic was the connection between Costner and Garner. They were great individually but it was hard to buy them as baby makers. All in all, it was a good cinema day for me. |

From the library I got Music and Lyrics with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore
I WANTED to like it and it wasn't awful. They both do their own singing...very well I might add. It just wasn't terrific.

I saw this yesterday.
Visually, it was epic as expected. The storyline was fairly formulaic but it wasn't boring if you like this kind of stuff. The surprise for me came from Stanley Tucci, who played scientist Joshua Royce. He had the best and funniest lines. Besides the introduction of the Dinobots, he was the best part for me. Today, I saw this movie. It was as I expected. I saw it in 3D, which was okay, but I think that regular would have been fine too. This movie falls victim to something that's happening to a lot of new movies over the past few years. The trailers are revealing too much of the storyline. There was only one twist that I didn't see coming from the trailer and it was good, but I wish more had been left to the imagination in the trailer. If you see it, stick around until all the credits run. |
