About 2 months ago - a woman passing by smiled at me on a busy street in Manhattan, which kind of shocked me for a moment bc that's so rare up here (from a stranger!). But then I smiled back and it was a nice moment.

Yesterday. I and a friend went to a Sonic Drive in. I didn't tip the roller skate girl who carried our order to our car. After she left, I asked my dining companion if he tips at Sonic, and he said "Yes, every time." His standard is a dollar or two, unless it's an unusually large order. So I've adopted his standard as my own. (I did tip our roller skate girl later when I called her for napkins.)
