they make these fish grippers now - boga grips - that grasp the fish's lip so you do not have to touch the fish at all. In fact, fish have a protective slime so it's best if we touch the fish as little as possible. **unless you get stung by a catfish in which case if you rub the spot where you got stung on the catfish's belly, it'll take the sting out of it**
3 getting stuck with the hooky thingy?
They make hook removers that you grip the hook, twist and remove
4 a feller to help ya?
I'm sure you could fish without a feller to help ya, but wouldn't it be more fun with one????

I went fishing yesterday for a couple of hours, caught a nice little bass. Sweet way to start out the fishing season!!

P, if you ever went fishing with me, I'd remove the fish for you. I'm used to doing that for those I've fished with that don't like to touch fish........
........but they'll eat them.

yesterday I drove to Mount Rogers National Forest. There were trout fishermen in a few spots. I stopped and was chatting a guy up. While I stood there he nailed a few. He said he had caught 9 and 5 were shorts.

Now I have the bug! I'm going back camping and fishing. They were using rod and reels by the spillways.

Fresh fish is rarely ever fishy. I'm spoiled when it comes to fish. I think there is a world of difference between fresh and even flash frozen. It all depends on the type of fish. Rainbow trout is white, clean tasting and really yummy if cooked right. Lake trout on the other hand tends to be larger and more fishy. Salt water fish it varies. Most people like sea bass and grouper, white flesh, deep water.

You can also soak fillet fish in milk for a few hours to add fat and help remove fishy smell and taste.

After I moved back to Ga. from Ohio I never got to fish. While in Ohio if the weather was warm I was on the lake before the sun was up good and stayed there until WELL after dark. I only went home to shower, sleep, and change clothes. When I got back to Ga the places that I grew up fishing were impossible for me to get to with my wheelchair. So for years my rods and reels sat and every once in a while I would take them own and dust them off just to feel them in my hands and bring back those memories of walking to my favoriet spot when I was youinger and then fishing off Jackson St. Peir in Ohio. Recent events brought some friends back into my life who are very supportive and while they recocnize my limitations they push me to do more and step outside the safty zones I have grown comfortable with. For the first time in about 6 years I went fishing at a spot they had found that had a dock a few other spots that were accessable to me. From the first sound of my baited hook hitting the water.... I felt like I was home. I hadn't felt so relaxed in years and have been several more times since fighting the urge to go daily. Next is the desire to be back out on a boat. I'm goin' to rent one before I take on the responcibility of buying one. Hopefully this will happen before the camping trip I'm goin' on in July. I wonder if they will have fishing there.....LOL. Yep I've definatly got the FEVER!

Ethan, bet you didn't know I was a bona fide fisherwoman, complete with the chest waders? Trout fishing, high in the mountains here - some of the most serene moments in my life. I can understand missing that.

Wanted to share that a lot of the national and state parks - have public access that often includes docks, etc. Did a search online and found a link that might be of some help for you. Good luck!

I haven't had a chance to go fishing yet. Thought I'd live vicariously through those that have. Just when I think I can go, it either rains (alright in Oklahoma it storms) or I'm 2 days mowing our football field of a yard or someone has me running errands. I think I need to get away for a weekend just so I can fish.

Fantastic post Ethan!! I'm glad you've got some friends to get you out there doing what you love to do!!!!!

Well, fishing thread pals, it's hot (high of 99 here for the next three days) (99 - in the shade!!!!!!) so this is the time I usually start doing night fishing mostly for catfish.

My question is do y'all have a magic, special or favorite bait to catch catfish with? I've used chicken livers (wrapped in pantyhose), hotdogs, corn, stink bait, shrimp and nightcrawlers. Does anyone have a special trick they'd like to share?

Thanks

It's time to go fishing, who's ready?

What kind of fishing do you like?

What reel and rod preference?

Do you do catch and release or bring your catch home?

Me, I was ready last year and can't wait

I like to lake fish, but really like river fishing with all it's challenges where snagging is a great possibility when the water is like a racing rapid.

I have several rods and have closed faced reels on all of them.
I'm the lazy fisherman, who wants to toss out my line and wait until I feel a nibble.
The challenge is getting them before they take the live bait.
I get quiet and pay close attention to my line in the water.

River fishing is different, you have to try different ways until you find one that works on that given day. Calm water day, you may just toss out your line and wait. Rushing rapids day, you'll want to be reeling in before the rapids take you farther than you want to be.

I'll be the one bringing home my catch to clean and either eat or put in the freezer for an end of the summer fish fry.

well fishing in Canada is a bit different but.....

i love bass fishing

i caught all of them in the pond in Massachusetts, at the lake in Oregon including a 2 pounder right before i left, and will catch all of the bass in Canada as soon as i can

i like a chartruse 2 oz jig head with a white/chartruse skirt

i love topwater buzz baits the best, but the weather has to be just right for that

also love purple worms with the white tail, bass love em

Nightcrawlers are fun but i rather skip that if i can

i also LOVE flyrod fishing

i fish for anything i won't eat, or pass on. i used to pay for my canoe rental space at the lake to million year old Gus who loved that deal.

Now i catch all the bass i can for my sister who seems to LOVE fish suddenly

I like fishing with nightcrawlers, it's what I was raised up fishing with

I find when fishing for perch in Lake Michigan by Navy Pier, you must use crawdads because they won't bite on anything else

I miss fishing during smelt season in IL and pan frying them as you bring in your catch
This is all net fishing and no poles at all

I don't know enough about artificial bait to know what kind of fish prefers what
If it works for me, I use it, if not I try something else
I used to have a frog that would go through weeds and I lent it out, mistake

The line on my reels are bright green so I can see them because I am a line watcher when lake fishing
