they make these fish grippers now - boga grips - that grasp the fish's lip so you do not have to touch the fish at all. In fact, fish have a protective slime so it's best if we touch the fish as little as possible. **unless you get stung by a catfish in which case if you rub the spot where you got stung on the catfish's belly, it'll take the sting out of it**
3 getting stuck with the hooky thingy?
They make hook removers that you grip the hook, twist and remove
4 a feller to help ya?
I'm sure you could fish without a feller to help ya, but wouldn't it be more fun with one????

I went fishing yesterday for a couple of hours, caught a nice little bass. Sweet way to start out the fishing season!!

P, if you ever went fishing with me, I'd remove the fish for you. I'm used to doing that for those I've fished with that don't like to touch fish........
........but they'll eat them.

yesterday I drove to Mount Rogers National Forest. There were trout fishermen in a few spots. I stopped and was chatting a guy up. While I stood there he nailed a few. He said he had caught 9 and 5 were shorts.

Now I have the bug! I'm going back camping and fishing. They were using rod and reels by the spillways.

Walleye put up such a good fight, almost as good a fight as carp. Walleye is meaty and great smoked, but also good fried. I have never caught a Gar but saw one floating once in the Mississippi River when I was fishing off a grain barge years ago. I fished the Smokey Mtns once and had a stringer of trout, but got the crap scared out of me when I pulled up the stringer to move and saw the weirdest ugliest thing sucking on the last trout on the stringer. My friends in TN called it a mudpuppy. I was getting up so quickly, I slipped on a couple rocks and wound up in the cold stream. Everyone laughed, but me. Like you, I don't care where I fish as long as I can when I want to. I used to go sit at a spot by the DesPlaines River in IL. It had a little dam and I could fish it above or below. At the time nothing worth eating came from there, but the calmness that came over me as I sat and waited for a bite was wonderful. It made a stressful work day better. No one to talk back to me by the river except nature.

Fresh fish is rarely ever fishy. I'm spoiled when it comes to fish. I think there is a world of difference between fresh and even flash frozen. It all depends on the type of fish. Rainbow trout is white, clean tasting and really yummy if cooked right. Lake trout on the other hand tends to be larger and more fishy. Salt water fish it varies. Most people like sea bass and grouper, white flesh, deep water.

You can also soak fillet fish in milk for a few hours to add fat and help remove fishy smell and taste.

After I moved back to Ga. from Ohio I never got to fish. While in Ohio if the weather was warm I was on the lake before the sun was up good and stayed there until WELL after dark. I only went home to shower, sleep, and change clothes. When I got back to Ga the places that I grew up fishing were impossible for me to get to with my wheelchair. So for years my rods and reels sat and every once in a while I would take them own and dust them off just to feel them in my hands and bring back those memories of walking to my favoriet spot when I was youinger and then fishing off Jackson St. Peir in Ohio. Recent events brought some friends back into my life who are very supportive and while they recocnize my limitations they push me to do more and step outside the safty zones I have grown comfortable with. For the first time in about 6 years I went fishing at a spot they had found that had a dock a few other spots that were accessable to me. From the first sound of my baited hook hitting the water.... I felt like I was home. I hadn't felt so relaxed in years and have been several more times since fighting the urge to go daily. Next is the desire to be back out on a boat. I'm goin' to rent one before I take on the responcibility of buying one. Hopefully this will happen before the camping trip I'm goin' on in July. I wonder if they will have fishing there.....LOL. Yep I've definatly got the FEVER!

Ethan, bet you didn't know I was a bona fide fisherwoman, complete with the chest waders? Trout fishing, high in the mountains here - some of the most serene moments in my life. I can understand missing that.

Wanted to share that a lot of the national and state parks - have public access that often includes docks, etc. Did a search online and found a link that might be of some help for you. Good luck!
