"you cannot have your cake and eat it to," I just cannot understand if it is my cake then why can I not eat it....I mean I know what message they are trying to convey but the analogy seems so weak unless there is some history that i am missing

How ironic you should post this! This is one of the idioms that the Unabomber used in his rantings /writings......."You can't eat your cake and have it, too," instead of the usual form, which is "You can't have your cake and eat it, too." The FBI profiler worked for ages on something called Forensic Linguistics to track and ultimately lead to the search warrant that brought him down!

WOW!!! Did not know this. When you said they used linguistics was it in regard to him reversing the saying or just the entire letter. That is super interesting, i habe to look that up.

The Unabomber had several tell tail signs in his writings! He often spelled works correctly but just not in the common form we use today hence they were able to track that down as well......this just aired on the Discovery Channel if you can find it check it out! Worth seeing IMHO
