Akin to "can't" is "BUT".
"I'd would do that, but......" How about "I would do that and I'm not going to...." AND is a better substitute for the word "but", which should be entirely eliminated from western vocabulary. "But" and "can't" are EXCUSE WORDS. Addendum: BUT is a wholly unnecessary word. However, "butts" can be very nice. Addendum, et al.: I think "fuckery" is a useless word as well <ducking>
