Will be holding a Transgender Day of Remembrance event on Friday, Nov 19, Preservation Park, Oakland, CA. Doors will open at 7 PM, ceremony at 7:30- 9:30 This is free and open to the community. The evening’s ceremony will feature speakers from the community as well as the reading of the names. Honour. Embrace. Celebrate. Educate. Advocate. November 20, 2010 marks the sixth annual Winnipeg Transgender Day of Remembrance (WTDOR) and the 12th annual International TDOR. This day serves as an opportunity to recognize, honour, embrace, celebrate, and remember the people who encounter or endure discrimination, prejudice, persecution, isolation, or violence ...because of their [perceived] gender identity and/or expression. TDOR is also about raising awareness, educating, and advocating for the rights and recognition of individuals who identify as transgender, trans sexual, genderqueer, any variation of/from/beyond these. This free, all ages, event will be located in an accessible, drug and alcohol free venue. We will be handing out an agenda shortly, after the moment of silence there will be one song drummed. "In San Francisco, several local organizations are joining together to host a Transgender Day of Remembrance event, also on November 20. It takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Asian and Pacific Islander Wellness Center, 730 Polk Street (at Ellis). Alexandra Byerly from the El/La Transgender Latina HIV Prevention Program will be the keynote speaker."
