Well, I'm completed the 35 min cardio workout (from starting stretch to ending stretch). I managed to keep up with about 98% of the exercises and only got confused on a couple.

Squats are always a challenge and weighted ones I don't think I can do because of back issues. I used to do the leg press and because of cycling could easily do 250lbs+. It has been quite a while since then. However, I do lunges now and I still hate those.
I just finished my free weight/resistance band training this afternoon and got even farther than before (35 min of 45 min). So still getting there. I'm at least keeping up with the reps and exercise. I had a vegan protein smoothie before that and am feeling good (although my arms are like rubber right now). Just have to keep at it, even the exercises we don't like! ![]()

I got a kettlebell. Just one, since I can trade off arms and then use it to tone both simultaneously. It's lime green and I've dubbed it Satan.
It's still sitting in the box though. I look at it like ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() *sigh* ![]() |

I am seriously patting myself on the back because one of my goals this year was to be able to post something to this thread!
Another goal was to treat my body better and to start working out again. All of that being said, my youngest daughter told me about a Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred workout DVD. I don't watch TV much, but I'm familiar with The Biggest Loser - which is the show that Jillian is on and trains the contestants. My daughter tells me that "Sure Momma, no problem you could totally do this workout - it's not that hard." Mind you - my daughter is a size 5. And prior to having her children she never went above a size 0. I'm thinking she has a pretty good grasp of what I'm capable of doing in regard to exercising. Let me just say: NOT! So, last Wednesday I excitedly went to the store and picked up the DVD. I brought it home and read the packaging. On Thursday, I sat in front of the TV and watched the DVD. And finally, on Friday I started the workout. Suffice it to say that my daughter is a big fat liar (even though she's only a size 5). I thought I was going to die!!!! But it wasn't until the next day when my body was aching that the effect started to sink in. I was in some serious pain and considering having a little talk with my daughter about exaggeration. I've stayed with the workout everyday (with exception of my day of rest) - loving the way I was feeling - even though I was in pain. I'm relishing in the way my body is feeling again. I have more energy and I'm starting to feel allllll sinewy again! Everyday has been an adventure and I go through this workout knowing it only takes 20 pretty doggone intense minutes and I'm done! I'm proud of me! Here I am - in the WorkOut Zone!

Well....I own my own weights and gym which I love having. But because I suffer from severe PTSD, and I'm moving through that trauma, I haven't been able to workout.
Well, I started up again yesterday because i really miss it. But today was the first day I started Shaun T's Insanity program which full blown cardio like you have never seen it. I thought I was going to die. I had to pause it probably 5-6 times to catch my breath. There's exercises on there that I had never seen and they are incredible. This is a 60-day cardio program to change your weight and body dramatically. No bullshit, it's an amazing program. There are 10 different disks, each having different 25-minute programs as you advance over a 60-day period. No weights or any equipment is required. It's going to be rough. I'm an ex-smoker, 4 years now, and I felt every bit of breathlessness doing this program even after 4 years of quitting. I'm also 53, but i have no problem of letting that stand in the way. I'm still strong enough to endure and build up with my weightlifting program. |

Ive been working out as many days as possable untill something in my back/nec or shoulder has a hissy. My work outs are scedualed as two on one off but if I can do more days in a row I will but need to becareful cause the back injury is a bitch when its on a roll.I have a bow flex, tredmill, exersise bike and a weight bench with free weights as ell as a tennis ball with a retreaver band on it ( it comes back when u hit it) wich I play against the garage wall.
Wish I had a squat and leg press machine, wich is he next thing im going to get.Squats can be dificult but I use a really snug weight belt and that helps a lot. I loat 42 pounds last year and have another 50 to go to get back to 200lbs,if I lose more great if not I will be just as happy. Not trying to be skinny just healthy. |

SOME threadstalker... that shall remain nameless (mr.bent) thought it would be funny to point out this old post of mine from May saying I would start Monday with P90X ( or PX90 or whatever the fuck) So now I feel compelled to post a retraction. NO i did not start that Monday. Yes it is still sitting on a shelf, in a bag, never played. But for the record, I now have a free gym membership through work and I went last nite. Did a very evil 30 mins ab class and nearly died. Tonite I go back for bellydance class. and who knows I may someday actually do those dvds. maybe. |

Two years ago this month, I left an unhealthy relationship. Since then, I've worked hard to be as good to myself as I possibly can and that's worked fairly well (give or take) until this month. My housemates are going through a nasty split and the past three weeks have been very difficult on all of us in the house, due to physical proximity as well as emotional ties to each person. The fights, the tears, the drama....*sigh*....I love them and I hate to say it, but I'm glad that one of them finally left the house. It is still not a healthy home by any standards, but it's better and that helps me. I am a chameleon. I adapt to the environment. If it's a good one, I do really well. When it's not, unfortunately, I don't. So, I've been emotionally eating and hibernating in my space and generally not being kind to myself. I am interested in the program you are talking about. If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost you? Feel free to pm me if you don't want to post it here. Thanks. ![]() |

I'm lucky to Insanity for 5 minutes without stopping the program.
But I'll tell you this: It has incredible ab routines. Will I shape in 60 days? Prolly more like 90. |

My gym includes a separate commercial-quality squat/calf machine. But now I've started the cardio program that hits the legs 3x what squat-calf machine does. Tonight i can hardly walk; I'm sore all the way through the glutes. Kind of pissed i spent the money. I guess, hopefully , in July I'll use the squat machine to build size...that's a big maybe. —J

I had an hour on the elliptical and a few minutes on the rowing machine today. 651 total calories BURNED, baby! Woot!
Tomorrow, my gym has a new Turbo Kickboxing class starting and I am super psyched! Of course, tomorrow I will probably be limping and wincing from the pain, but I think it's going to be an awesome class and can't wait to see the results from it. ![]() |

I do workout. Although I'm not sure why I bother. *sigh* I try to do an 1 1/2 at the gym. I like it and would stay longer but damned if they'll let you smoke in there. The day I signed up at this gym (planet fitness) they had a huge bowl of candy on the desk and 25 sheet pizza's on a table - Friday is pizza day - I was like YAY! This is my kinda gym!! lol.
I bought those shape up shoes a couple of weeks ago. I got the cute looking Mary Jane ones by sketchers so I could wear them to work. The first three days my legs and butt burned. And my back muscles hurt. I did read the instructions and you are only supposed to wear them for an hour at first. I disregarded that and wore them all day. Whatever. I bought them so my butt would be tiny like the girls on the sketcher and nike commercials. I figured, better just get to gettin'. ANYWAY...They do absolutely change your posture. Now my legs and feet hurt when I'm NOT wearing them. I want another pair now, I wish they weren't so expensive so I could start a collection. I need the flip flop ones for sure. |

Turbo Kickboxing was not all that I had hoped it would be, unfortunately. Some of it had nothing to do with the class or instructor though. My gym is redoing their siding and the sounds from the construction overrode the mike and instructor so the music kept getting turned up but her mouth set kept going out. Blech. Annoying, but not a deal breaker.
Next week, the construction won't be going on right outside the gym and, hopefully, they will have picked a better headset to call the changes through. I did, however, burn about 400 calories, even with the stopping and starting due to the sound system and just awkwardness in general. This was the instructor's very first time teaching a class, so it was an experience for all of us. Now, if I can just get the lady in front of me to understand what the words 'mirror my movements' means, I'll be set. She kept throwing me off because I'm aerobically ADD like that. ![]() All in all, I do have hope for it and I got some good laughs looking at everyone muddle around. I'm sure I looked awkward too, but there were no mirrors so I couldn't see how bad I looked. ![]() I finished up the day with another half an hour in the cardio room. Good times! |

![]() That's the best part for me.Jumping on the indoor bike and riding it for an hour a day.Keeps you tight.I throw around my 100lb barbell when I don't have a lot of time for a real workout. When I do have time I will hit every muscle group from Monday through Friday with no days off.I have been lifting weights since I was 12 years old.I have tried stopping my exercise routine many times in the past due to long work days or an illness but it's like my body needs it and I will actually go through withdrawals if I don't lift something heavy like a couple of 50lb dumbbells.I usually go slow and burn-in each rep.I don't go more than 4 sets for each muscle group and never more than 12 reps in each set.I like free weights the best but will use cables for my back routine. My legs are my weakest link so I do lots of lunges and leg extensions and curls to keep them strong.I prefer sumo squats to regular barbell squats using a free weight.I can easily spend up to 3 hours in the gym but found 2 hours a day is plenty of workout for me.I seem to have tons of energy between 9am-12noon..why? it beats me. Good read and now it's mimi time. |
