I am seriously patting myself on the back because one of my goals this year was to be able to post something to this thread!
Another goal was to treat my body better and to start working out again. All of that being said, my youngest daughter told me about a Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred workout DVD. I don't watch TV much, but I'm familiar with The Biggest Loser - which is the show that Jillian is on and trains the contestants. My daughter tells me that "Sure Momma, no problem you could totally do this workout - it's not that hard." Mind you - my daughter is a size 5. And prior to having her children she never went above a size 0. I'm thinking she has a pretty good grasp of what I'm capable of doing in regard to exercising. Let me just say: NOT! So, last Wednesday I excitedly went to the store and picked up the DVD. I brought it home and read the packaging. On Thursday, I sat in front of the TV and watched the DVD. And finally, on Friday I started the workout. Suffice it to say that my daughter is a big fat liar (even though she's only a size 5). I thought I was going to die!!!! But it wasn't until the next day when my body was aching that the effect started to sink in. I was in some serious pain and considering having a little talk with my daughter about exaggeration. I've stayed with the workout everyday (with exception of my day of rest) - loving the way I was feeling - even though I was in pain. I'm relishing in the way my body is feeling again. I have more energy and I'm starting to feel allllll sinewy again! Everyday has been an adventure and I go through this workout knowing it only takes 20 pretty doggone intense minutes and I'm done! I'm proud of me! Here I am - in the WorkOut Zone!

I bought Mr. Strutt and Katie, our daughter, a Wii for Christmas and I have to say, I've become completely addicted to Wii Fit Plus. Between diet and doing the Wii exercises, I'm down seven pounds since the beginning of the year.

w00t! I just finished my 35 min sculpting/toning/workout video. It's pretty good at using resistance bands. This has been perfect for me when I'm on the road just as much as when I'm at home.
I've been pretty good about keeping to good meal sizes and healthier meals, although I do slip now and again (especially on the road) back into some soda stuff.. :P

Between my week in Toronto and my week here in Vegas, I've been good about keeping my workouts going. I've been doing extensive walking (tonight I spent it playing tourist walking from the Mandalay to the Belagio and back again). Since I historically haven't been doing any exercise when teaching online or in the classroom, this is a huge improvement over the past. Additionally, I've been doing the the strength training and that is a near immediate results (visually).
I've been a bit better on the snacks but not great (they offer too many free sweets and sodas at the training facilities and not enough water). I, at least, try to ensure that I limit myself to no more than 1 can of diet soda so that brings down what I drink significantly but I need to remove it from my diet completely (I had done it before for nearly a year).

I'm doing 30-60 minutes a day of cardio with stretching before and after about 4 times a week now and eating much better. I enter my info into thedailyplate.com and it breaks down my fat, sodium, cholesterol, sugar, fiber, protein, and calories each day. When you enter any fitness for the day, it recalculates it into your food intake automatically. I like that, being that I'm part sloth.
I need to knock off the kidding around and really get into some weight resistance exercises. I've got the kettle bell *grimace* and some light hand weights and a chair (for my triceps and suck ass balance). I've been super slacking on my ab work too, which is normally quite easy for me. I've just been too lazy. I think it's a case of 'at least I'm doing SOMEthing' right now. |
