Found this recipe earlier this week and have been thinking about it ever since. I was going to wait until next weekend to cook it because Gillian has to work this weekend - but I'm thinking at this point.. she'll just have to suck it up.. this is not going to wait until next weekend.

I found a recipe for black bean and sweet potato chili. My coworker made it and it was delicious! I'll post the recipe once I get home today

I was proud of myself tonight... ran late due to a meeting and was very pressed for time in regards to getting Gillian fed before she headed off to work. My first thought was well hell now would be a good time to splurge and get a whopper. Next thought was or even better... hot wings! I ran down a very unhealthy orgy of food choices before I ultimately decided to call her, and ask her get showered before dinner instead of after... this made it so I had time to make roasted cauliflower and nuke a couple of veggie riblets.

Yay!

So now my calories for the day will only be just over 1200.

I believe in rewarding yourself when you hit certain weight milestones. Obviously IMO this should not be with some kind of comfort food splurge. To me that just kinda reinforces the belligerant kid in our heads who thinks this is punishment.

What I do instead is line up things I want to purchase. This time around I've lined up probably 200 dollars worth of kitchen knives / utensils / measuring equipment upgrades. All of them are varying amounts of money - with some only being 5 bucks - so I don't have to wait to hit some huge milestone to reward myself and I won't break the bank either.

I've decided to move away from the black and stainless format of most of my cooking supplies. I've selected multicolored knives, utensils, measuring cups and a checkerboard chopping block as well.

Gonna throw some color into my kitchen, make cutting and serving all this good stuff fun and exciting.

5 - 6 more pounds before I hit my first goal of 10% weight loss.

Now I need to figure out which item to get...

Hello healthies

One of my strategies for eating healthier is to make sure there's an abundance of fresh fruit and veggies in the house. Snack and I hit the farmer's market today and came home with:
  • corn on the cob
  • creamer potatoes
  • onions
  • peaches
  • tomatoes
  • kiwi
  • pineapple
  • cantaloupe
  • strawberries
  • blueberries
  • asparagus
  • mesclun salad greens
  • cheese rigatoni
  • organic marinara sauce
  • radishes
  • mangoes
  • plums
  • apples
  • papaya
  • fresh italian bread

I made a big fruit salad for mid-afternoon snack with strawberries, bananas, oranges, apples, kiwi and mango. For dinner, we had the rigatoni with marinara, steamed fresh asparagus and some of the yummy italian bread.

Default Leptin and Cold Thermogenesis

From one of the Spark People teams I am on...

Dr. Kruse says that most of our problems with obesity, resistant weight loss, and chronic disease are caused by leptin resistance. He has a protocol to reset leptin. He lost over 130 pounds himself, and is now helping his patients and others do the same. Here's his blog:

jackkruse.com/

Here's a link to the main topics in the Quilt. You can scroll down to the explanation of each square of the quilt. He calls them levees. Each levee will eventually have its own thread on this sparkteam, a place for us to discuss them.

jackkruse.com/the-quilthow-to-beat-agin/

Dr. Kruse doesn't have each blog post linked to the position in the quilt, so the best way to start is to go to the archives and start at the very first post (In June) and read them in order. They are quite technical and can be overwhelming, so pace yourself. If you jump in to where he is posting right now, you will be extremely lost unless you are either a biochemist or you have been doing leptin research.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +

I found him to be very interesting and for me, right on the money. He is a scientist at heart, so know that his stuff might be a bit challenging to absorb. Do not give up!

Default Mark's Daily Apple

I have been eating primally for about a year now. My budget does not allow me to go with the organic, hormone free meat, unless I shoot it myself. I try to get as many organic vegetables and fruit as I can but not opposed to eating conventional.

The primal fitness stuff is good though I do like to ride my bike almost everyday.

Anyway, take a look at Mark's plan and see if you like it. I feel great!

had this tonight and it was good! We did find it a tad bland so next time I will add fresh oregano and rosemary and we also love shrooms so we had more of those than called for.

End result was 6 servings instead of the stated 4 and 256 good for you calories!

This will definitely be added to our menu.

Good morning all......
For being away for 10 stress filled and long work days
I feel like I did not do badly...gained 4 lbs back (groaning)...
It was difficult for me to really maintain 500 calories
because of the 12 - 14 hr days and disruption to my
usual schedule. But now I have the pitfalls and will make
adjustments. I do have a new clint soon, so I am not sure if I will
have to be onsite more often than not yet.

I have not yet been back to see the crazy Russian and he hasn't
called yet......
