I am going to try to get to Lagunitas Brewing Co's taproom this weekend. It's in Petaluma, Ca. They have a couple of Imperial Stouts on tap right now. Funny that their tasters are more expensive than Russian River's. *frown*

I have not gotten to Lagunitis yet. But I arrived up here at this peaceful lovely summer vacation rental (only a few weeks yet, and only weekends for me cause I am working now) and found some Anchor Steam Beers I had left in the fridge.

For me they are like the everyday easy drinker -- affordable, good, not so complex you feel you have to sit down and write about it. Good stuff. Nice to arrive here and have a couple cold in the fridge.

Now what to do for food.

I liked the regular Genesee beer when I was up in NY, also the Labatts Ice better than the Labatts Blue. You cooking the beer chicken on the grill or oven?

Ever tried it with a smoker? Personally like to do it that way because you can either pour beer in the pan or water to help keep it a little moister. Also like to smoke it sometimes with hickory and mesquite too.

How did you like the Genesee Cream Ale? I recall drinking it a long time ago and liking it, but can't really recall the flavor. have no idea whether I'd like it today.

I did get to Lagunitas. Some of the samples were crazy good. Too tired to say more now.

The Sumpin Sumpin Wild was my favorite. I should have written more about it all earlier instead of arguing on another thread and watching Burn Notice. Now I am too tired. Great beers though. Incredible. Any one of them would have been memorable.

I had two samplers of four. So tried eight. I have the list and notes in my purse. Too lazy to get it, and my memory sucks. I know I tried these in addition to the Sumpin Sumpin Wild:

IPA
Imperial Stout
Censored
Undercover Shutdown -- a double IPA -- it was so good that I bought a coaster with the name on it.

They have a big outside area and live music. I had an artichoke press sandwich, which was tasty.

I went to a pub in the bay area today. If you curious about which one, PM me.

I tried these beers:

Petrus Aged Pale -- this is another fermented beer. I have been loving these lately. It's got a sour lemony woody funky taste. Just yummy. Not as intense as the Russian River ones I tried, but this is a different style. It's called an Oud Bruin. I don't know that I have ever had one before. But it was good.

Hazelnut Brown Nector -- brewed by Rogues Ales. Well-named. Nector of the gods. I was not expecting much for some reason and wow. Glorious. So good that I bought a pint. All the rest were tasters (and free!) Here's part of a review from Beer Advocate: "A far more muted approach than the nose...if that's possible. Hazelnuts are loaded but in no way aggressive. Definitely bready with a pull of caramel sweetness. Some cracker dryness. Nutty. I can't help but think of dark brown bread. Deft use of hazelnuts. Avoids becoming sweet."

Zummer Zitra Top brewed by Mikkeller. Light but flavorful. Fruity but not sweet. Hops and a final bitter taste. Excellent beer. Yum.

Before, During and After Christmas by Evil Twin. A double IPA. Hoppy goodness. Lots of citrus and pine. I enjoyed this.

Old Rasputin Imperial Stout from North Coast Brewing. Never fails. Such a good stout.

The two just so so selections were Obsidian Stout brewed in Oregon by Deschutes. Beer Advocate gives it very high marks, but I didn't think it tasted like much. And Allagash Dubbel. I can't remember it well, just that it wasn't at the level of the others.

My friend tried the Double Dead Guy by Rogues Ales. He liked it, but I wasn't thrilled.

Default champagne of beer?

It is pretty smooth going down. Reminds me of a light beer but better? I don't know.
I think I would prefer this to a light beer. What do you all think of the High Life?

The Chicken was great but i figured out i enjoy a more hoppy beer when making beer can chicken.

i really enjoyed this beer and will look for it on tap when i am out and about just to try it that way. i think it is a great refreshing beer. It tastes and smells like corn and grain giving a slight bitter and sweet taste. i drank it from the can and also poured it into a glass. i prefer the glass experience because i get to enjoy its' gold color. i like to smell the foam of my beers because they sometimes carries a different aroma from the actual liquid beer. Sometimes that in itself can be a burst of nasally goodness. i also love that it is cost effective.

Genesee Brewing Co. / Dundee Brewing Co. out of NY

this is not the can i drank from...i just like the can itself.

i had a Trappist beer this past week. i think it was a red cap Chimay. I am gonna have to try it again. i am gonna try all three of them together.

my memory and consumption of Miller High Life revolves around my moms dad. my Papa drank MHL and Hams beer(owned by Miller)...they lived on a big lake and everyday for him was a play day. one of the first beers i tried were both of those beers. i was not a fan of either but i noticed that my family had a relationship with their food and beer/drinks...an experience. Its' marketing /packaging slogan is "The Champagne of Beers" and it is owned by a United Kingdom company SAB Miller.

i love beer. it is not a lifeless, inanimate object to me. They go far beyond just a product for me. i really enjoy hearing about peoples experiences and insight when they drink beer and share here.
