It would be uncomfortable for me to be with a whole group of people who have moved from one person to the next in a group (talking monogamous relationships here). However, it happens. I think that part of it (at least, "back in the day", when I saw it more), relates to the fact that there is a limited "supply" of homosexual females/queers (in comparison to heterosexuals, for example).
