I gave up cheese cold turkey too. I just stopped using it. The only dairy I would have a problem giving up would be 0% greek yogurt and frozen yogurt.

Many of my friends are vegan and raw, and I have wanted to do the same thing.. I guess I just get stuck on starting and the transition. I need to talk to them and do some more research!

I caught up on this thread which was me treating myself good and healthy because you all give such great support, tips, and love!

I don't have much to say but I'll talk anyway because it's good to participate to stay in the game

I had a morning last week that I was late to work because my scale that I have used for a thousand years (or so it feels) finally broke. As I've said, I normally weigh myself every morning, and this just about made me go postal! In fact it kind of temporarily did! I kept stepping on the scale, and it kept not lighting up, so I kept stepping again in a different spot on the scale, or moving it, or changing the battery. No luck! I was like a mouse in some cruel experiment, trained so extensively to step on a pedal for a reward that when there is no reward, the mouse keeps stepping and stepping!

Very reluctantly I have switched to BB's scale. BB's scale weighs me 2.5 lbs lower than my scale. I know that as long as it's consistent (and thank goodness it's "lower-consistent") then it's not a problem, but I feel like my whole sense of the universe if off. As you can imagine, BB thinks I'm being a bit dramatic but alas, this adjustment shall take a little more time.

As an end to this tangent, I should note that my cat, Frou Frou, also misses my scale, so we are able to bond over it. Frou Frou used to love the texture of that scale (or something) and loved to roost on it when I was not using it. She'd look up so seriously at BB and me, and one of us would say, "Frou Frou, are you on the Catkins diet again? Dont' be embarrassed. We'll support you." It was all very silly but a pleasant routine for all involved. Maybe she'll also eventually adjust to the new scale.

And that's all I have to say for tonight. Thanks, my weight loss/ health buddies

I was away all weekend, and did very little moving. But I knew that would be the case. I did take a 1/2 hour each day for some power yoga, but that is not really going to aid in weight loss. We did go for a two hour hike in the mountains on Friday, which was a good sweat generator.

I did not pay attention to the amount of protein I was eating, and did not pay attention to that detail. So, last night when I went to my Zumba class I could really feel my muscles struggling and this morning they were struggling. I am going to have to keep a better eye on my protein, I know that that can be quite a factor in weight loss.

I don't eat meat or dairy. I did have soy, but I only had a cup a day when I was away. We did eat very well, but I am used to my protein shake every morning, which is 27g right there.

So... not sure where I am on the scale. I will find out Friday for my weigh in. It is a glorious week of exercise opportunity so I best not miss it. It is actually a great week with lots and lots of wonderful things going on... I just have to figure out when I will have time to do my laundry!!

Hey all y'all healthy folks!

I'm sorry I haven't posted in awhile... although I've been faithfully reading your updates everyday. I guess the last week or so, I've been in a slight stump. I haven't binged, but I could feel my motivation slipping away. I've been watching what I eat, but have noticed that I'm giving myself a lil' too much leeway with comfort food.

When I weighed last week, I was at a standstill again. I KNOW that I've got to get moving again... I am the only one that can make these changes. Seeing all of your updates & encouraging words is giving me the reality check that I need!

The other night, I was craving chicken spaghetti. Yeah, I know, not the healthiest dinner, but I made my modifications and it was AWESOME!

1 pound cooked, cubed chicken
1 - can rotel tomato
1 - can or jar of mushrooms
1 - can Healthy Request cream of chicken soup
1 - package of whole wheat pasta (thin or angel hair)
6 oz - cubed 2% milk velvetta cheese (half the fat & calories of regular velvetta & tastes the same)

Just boil & drain the pasta. Add the cheese & soup while the pasta is still warm (it helps melt the cheese). Then mix in the chicken, rotel & mushrooms... voila dinner is served! Seriously, it tasted exactly the same as my old receipe!

Yesterday, the focus went back to watching portion control and upping my water intake. Tonight, we are hitting the gym whether D likes it or not

Meals planned for the day today...

Breakfast:
multigrain cheerios with 2% milk
a banana
and a small sugar free vanilla iced coffe

Lunch:
tuna salad on a wrap with lettuce & tomato
apple slices & grapes

Dinner:
grilled boneless pork chops
grilled zuchinni
baked sweet potato for me (plain potato for D)
and a LIGHT ceaser salad

Shhhhh... Gonna say this very quietly...

The scale moved this morning. Could've been a fluke....don't know. I'll check again at the end of the month.

Lunch was kinda weired today,I had artichoke hearts (4) a hand full of black olives, two slices of chedar cheese(low fat),6 whole wheat crackers,1 can of tuna packed in water with a diet coke to drink.I pulled a day shift at the country club to day so Im glad about that part, then tonight for dinner I made a salad with a dribble of ranchdressing toped with thin slices of steak about 6 with water to drink.
On the local night news had a spot about stroke triggers,in it were a lot of the things that my doc told me to eat on my food plan, stuff like milk, eggs, cheese, cracker, chips of all kinds...soda of all kinds..coffee..any kind of potatos, meat (red) on an on and fried foods. All I know is im eating healther than I have in years, drinking atleast 4 -20 bottles of water a day plus im exersiseing as much as I can even tho I must say not in the gym as much as I was I am doing things to be active. One reason I slowed down at the gym was bordedom the other was I started to have some joint probs in my shoulders and upper back.I dont know if I did something to start it up or was it just time for an issue with it(my back has a mind of its own).
Then I have to own up to palying a lot of pool hear lately,so far my ladies team is three points ont of the top spot,if we win tomorrow night we will be able to have a shot at going to vegas to compeat,we missed it last year by a hair.Anyhoo life is about the same hear, takeing it one day at the time.Every one keep up with the good work in our quest to be healther, one meal at the time we will get there.

Good Morning Everyone,

I am happy since I did very well yesterday at our International Food Day at work! My homemade macaroni salad was a hit with everyone and I kept away from the cookies but treated myself to a small slice of red velvet cake. Tomorrow is my five year old niece's birthday party and thank goodness it is at a bowling alley!

Here is the recipe for the macaroni salad and feel free to modify it:

About half of a box of elbow macaroni
One can of albacore tuna
Half of a bag of Green peas <I used the frozen ones; less salt>
About three tablespoons of Olive Oil Mayo

Enjoy and here is some dancing music!

Well, I did myself in again.

After practicing for a few days with my walking poles to be sure I wouldn’t skewer/kabob my own foot I just had to start doing this barefoot. It is fabulous!

It is also the functional equivalent of slow X-country skiing on a belt sander; so after four ten mile days of it I walked right through the skin on the bottom of my foot.

Looks like I’m back in shoes for a few days.
